Carson Meyer Instagram – I’ve always believed that we carry the memories of our births within us and that young children in particular have a clearer connection to the spiritual realm, life within the womb, and life before birth.
Recently, I had the most spectacular exchange with Lou that reenforced this belief and left me awestruck.
I was standing in the kitchen and I said to Lou, “You know Lou, Mama and Dada made you!?”
She looked up and me and nodded, pointed upstairs to the room she was born in and said, “Born in bed.”
“That’s right! You were born in bed! What else do you remember about being born” I asked. “Dada caught me” she said, and then threw her head back looking wide eyed at the ceiling. I gave birth on all fours and Lou was born with her eyes wide open looking up at her dad. This was something she’d never done before and something I’d never shown her or told her about. She was having a somatic memory of being born. My jaw hit the floor.
Over the next few weeks she continued to tell me more about her birth when I asked her about it: “Mama did it” , “I landed”, “Thank you god” and “bellybutton” she said pointing at the sacred place on her body where she receiving nourishment, oxygen and blood from me for all those months.
“Do you remember anything from before you were born” I asked. “Lullaby” was her response. Every night before bed while I was pregnant Johnathan and I would sing to her.
Birth is a sacred event that informs who we are and who we become. Ask your baby. They’ll teach you more than you could ever expect.
