“My journey to self pleasure was long because it meant undoing my social conditioning:
-to please others
-to not be too demanding
-to not be ‘wasting time’
Self pleasure taught me confidence, joy and how to carve out space for my needs,” Kalki shared.
I resonated with this myself, so much.
My own pleasure was so mysterious to me for the longest time. By my mid twenties I had had relationships but believe it or not, I hadn’t yet explored self pleasure. When I got myself a toy at 26 on the recommendation of a friend, it really changed everything for me.
The joy and self discovery it brought me around my own body, and the fact that till that point I didn’t even know that I didn’t know the extent of the pleasure I was capable of experiencing — was what pushed me to start my YT channel focused on pleasure centric s:x ed way back in 2017. I wanted to shout it from the rooftops that women’s pleasure matters!
I’m 33 now and for that experience to have ignited this whole journey and career for me—it really feels like Leezu’s and Pyaari were meant to be. 💖
I find it so powerful that @kalkikanmani’s book about pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood, starts on the topic of ab0rtion. Given the type of pushback against this fundamental right in several parts of the world, and even the censorship of information around this right, it is so important that we advocate for it, and that more of us are able to share our own experiences without fear of judgement or shame. Kalki also spoke of how important it is for one’s partner and family to support and be there for you if you’re going through this— too often women are left to deal with this stuff with no support at all. Accidental pregnancy can happen to anyone. Ab0rtion is so common that there’s definitely folks amongst you and your friends or family and me and my friends or family who will have had one— even if we have no idea. People deserve safe, legal, and affordable access, and support, not stigma.

“My values are very simple. It’s just about stepping forward every day a little bit.” Author, producer, humanitarian and actor Kalki Koechlin shines in jewels from the Born to Fly collection as she speaks on ideas of self discovery and individuality at Her Story, Kala Ghoda.
Inspired by a free-spirited woman who lives her life on her own terms, the collection is characterised by symbolic wings flying free in vibrant ombré hues. The striking jewels feature pink sapphires and white diamonds pavé-set in 18K rose gold, and blue sapphires pavé-set in 18K white gold. Layered feathers are handcrafted to move for a soft fluttering effect, evoking a sense of free-spiritedness.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts invites you to a special reading of The Spotlight Monologues on 08 March 2024, at 7pm.
Written by Eve Ensler and directed by Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, the monologues offer poignant retellings of stories of violence as experienced by survivors from across the globe.
Women face indescribable brutality which robs them not just of basic human dignity, but often of life itself. Eve Ensler travelled the world and was told ‘soul-cracking and heinous stories of atrocities’ faced by women and transwomen. In the telling of a few of these stories she hopes that we can shake up our collective conscience and work towards changing this mindset that normalizes violence against women.
The event is an initiative to support Goa Outreach, a charity that strives to create a safe learning environment for underprivileged children. Kindly donate generously.
