It was such a privilege touring the White House with my brother, neice and some awesome people doing great work for the AANHPI community.
The quote from John Adams made me choke up a bit.

NEW EPISODE ALERT and here’s a behind the scenes clip of how May, Kelly and Tamlyn work on the fly! 😂🤣😂
The episode focuses on the month of May when the spotlight burns brighter on the AANHPI community! All month long we celebrate the diversity of Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders and that means honoring everyone from the most prominent political and media figures to the unsung heroes who are tirelessly working to elevate our voices.
May, Kelly and Tamlyn talk about their commitment to the community and why the sense of belonging amongst AANHPIs is still not fully embraced, according to the latest STAATUS report. Perhaps one reason is that a majority of Americans still can’t name one prominent Asian American.
The ladies of “Shoes Off Inside” also look forward to being together IN PERSON in Washington, D.C. to celebrate AANHPI at the APAICS gala, or more fondly referred to as the “Asian Prom”. (note: this episode was recorded May 2, before the D.C. events) But at the end of the episode, there’s a post-event update that you don’t want to miss. Let’s put it this way, it’s the most unusual setting that MKT have every recorded in together! It was a little bumpy!

James Cherill “B” Bertino was my drama teacher for all 4 years of high school at The Kamehameha Schools. I took drama every semester as my elective never learning to type, use a computer or any practical skills because I knew that acting was the only thing I ever wanted to do in life.
As a professional working actor himself, Mr B appeared on Magnum P. I. where he played a homeless man in jail. He described his creativie process in developing that character from the audition to his performance on set and I was enthralled. Shortly after graduating I landed my first professional acting role on a show called Growing Pains which was shooting its season premiere in Hawaii. After I completed the shoot and before the show aired I made my move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career armed with only the single credit and everything Mr. Bertino taught me in those 4 years of high school drama. It’s been 37 years of constant work as an actress ever since.
A few years ago I found him on FB and messaged him to thank him but didn’t hear back. After a while his daughter texted me saying Mr B didn’t use FB anymore because he had developed dementia but she said she would read him the text and assured me that he remembered who I was. I can only hope that he saw my work and that I made him proud.
RIP, Mr. B, I will always be grateful.
