Great news for Ireland, and much needed here in Australia! We’re in a cost of living crisis, we know people are skipping medications. Making contraceptives free – would make an enormous difference to people’s lives. The Senate inquiry into reproductive healthcare recommended making contraception more affordable for all people, but Labor’s response to that report is now 10 months overdue!
The first hearings of the Senate inquiry into peri and menopause start on Monday, where we’ll hear from and get to ask questions of experts, academics, health and workplace practitioners, and – most importantly – people with lived experience of perimenopause and menopause. I’ve been blown away by the support from all sides of politics on this issue, as well as from the public, and cannot wait for this inquiry to get underway. And for a dynamite report which we will pressure the Government of the day to implement the recommendations of – because women are worth it! Full article @womensagenda
Queensland Senator for the Greens and Leader of the Australian Greens in the Senate, Larissa Waters, responds to Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen’s comments about not listening to climate protests, especially the School Strike 4 Climate. @larissawaters @ky.stewart23 @australiangreens @chrisbowenmp . . . . #climate #climatechange #climateaction #protest #climateprotest #labor #laborparty #climatecrisis #climateemergency #schoolstrikeforclimate #schoolstrike4climate #auspol #auspolitics #politics #australianpolitics #australia #larisswaters #greens #australiangreens #chrisbowen #canberra #queensland
Affordable, specialist legal services are a literal lifeline to women escaping family and domestic violence. In NSW alone demand for Legal Aid has increased by over 60%. Labor must move to ensure frontline legal services have the funding they need, so that women and children at risk of violence are not turned away.
Regional Queensland is so poorly served by the Nationals. It is so disappointing to see this disregard for the community. We need a plan for Queenslanders that follows the science on emissions targets, phases out fossil fuels, protects farmland and looks after workers. Instead we get nuclear nonsense from a Coalition still firmly in the thrall of climate denialism.
Thanks to everyone who braved the cold (for Queensland) weather to attend our public forum and community dinner at Acacia Ridge on Tuesday night. It was a pleasure to spend time discussing the real issues impacting our community, and how we can fight back against the ongoing demonisation of migrants and refugees. Labor is currently trying to push an anti-refugee bill through the Senate that will endanger the lives of asylum seekers, impose harsh prison terms, and separate families through a Trump-style travel ban here in Australia. But you can help stop it! Head to the link in my bio for info on joining the campaign, as well as more info on the upcoming Brisbane rally to say No to Labor’s Deportation and Entry Ban Bill 🔗

The recommendations in the Final Report of the Senate inquiry into consultants are too weak and won’t deliver the change we need. They only go 10% of the way towards fixing this problem. Here’s a few of the key actions needed to tackle the big four consulting firms properly – neatly distilled from 50 pages of additional comments @barbarapocock made in the report 😱

I joined with hundreds of local community members at Brookwater today to support their campaign to Save Woogaroo Forest. The private profits of property developers should not be more important than critical habitat and the community’s wishes. The Greens want to use the vast revenue currently going to property investors in tax perks to set up a public property developer, that would sell and rent houses at prices people can actually afford. This development will destroy important habitat for our native wildlife, while doing nothing to address the housing crisis.

Eid Mubarak! Happy Eid Al-Adha to all who celebrate. This Eid we’re thinking of everyone suffering from the ongoing genocide in Gaza. We will not stop pushing for an end to this invasion.
