A damning report. Shocking to read about continued, disgraceful failures of police when dealing with victim survivors. There is so much that needs to change in our institutions and government. These systems of oppression are built on the patriarchy, and are fueling the epidemic of violence against women. We need to do much more to end the violence. Governments need to do more, society needs to do more.
The flames of justice for Palestine will only burn brighter and brighter. They are inspired by the resistance and courage of Palestinians. They cannot be extinguished.
Young people are entering their adult lives full of worry and stress, facing compounding pressures from the housing and cost of living crises, to ballooning student debt. Let me be clear: the government could today choose to lift people out of poverty. They could raise income support payments above the poverty line, freeze rents to ease housing pressures, and make TAFE and uni free. Poverty has always been a political choice. Labor can choose to give young people a brighter future, they just refuse to.
As @batesforbrisbane has said, 16 year olds can drive cars, work, and enlist in the Australian Defence Force, but they can’t have a say in what happens in their own government. Young people are on the front lines of so many crises we face, from climate catastrophe to the housing crisis to ballooning student debt. They deserve a say in who runs the country. #Makeit16
