We’ve left Senate Question Time today in protest because Labor AGAIN refused to support an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. It is quite frankly disgusting and shameful behaviour from Labor. Supporting the United Nations call for a ceasefire is one of the most basic steps the Australian Government could take, and yet they refuse to do so. We need a ceasefire now. We need an end to the occupation now. We need lasting peace – NOW. The children and people of Gaza cannot wait. 🇵🇸

Rather than rein in corporate profits, stop supermarket price gouging, invest in large scale public housing and cap rents, the Albanese Government would rather continue its racist dogwhistling, engaging in a race to the bottom with the Coalition on who can be more cruel to refugees, people seeking asylum, international students, migrants and people of colour.

We don’t need another inquiry to tell us the cruel live sheep export industry needs to be shut down. It was really good to see the bill pass the House yesterday. So many of us have worked so hard to get here. We’ll make sure it passes the Senate next week.

We have a housing system that sees millions screwed over while banks and property developers make an absolute killing off the misery of others. Labor’s Build to Rent proposal will only make this worse. It will see developers receive tax handouts to build apartments where only 10% have to meet weak requirements of “affordability” – defined as 75% of market rent (which still puts many under housing stress). The other 90%? No restrictions at all. The Greens will be pushing for 100% of any apartments built under Labor’s scheme to be genuinely affordable.
