The Greens will be moving a motion in the Senate today to recognise the state of Palestine. All Labor has to do is have the conviction to stick to their policy and take the most basic act of historical justice. We call on every member of the Labor party to support this motion. Every abstention and every vote against this motion will be recorded firmly and permanently on the wrong side of history. At the heart of recognising Palestinian statehood must be the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

If Labor says they care about Palestinian justice, they must vote for it.
Today, the Greens moved a simple motion calling for a basic, fundamental act of justice, to recognise Palestine.

Today the Greens moved a simple motion calling for a basic, fundamental act of justice, to recognise Palestine. We’re pleased that Senator Payman had the courage and principle to support the motion and cross the floor. The rest of Labor totally failed this basic moral test, by refusing to support my motion.
Every vote against the Greens’ motion to recognise Palestinian statehood today will be recorded firmly and permanently on the wrong side of history. That’s our message to Labor. It’s well past time for them to take this most basic historical act.
We have just seen a historic moment for everyone that cares about animals and animal welfare! Today, the bill to end the cruel live sheep export trade has finally passed parliament – we have a guaranteed, legislated date for the end of this barbaric trade!
Well, it finally happened. Yesterday the bill to end the cruel live sheep export trade passed parliament! Shutting down this barbaric trade is a historic win for every single person who cares about animal welfare in this country. So proud that the Greens have always been on the right side of history when it comes to animal welfare. We will finally stop these ships of misery from ever sailing again.

I hope the GG sworn in yesterday is our last. It’s way beyond time to cut ties with the monarchy.
“It’s f*%king insane” – @senatorsurfer There’s no other way to describe it. Labor approving new coal and gas, while we watch our corals die and global temperatures rise, is insane.
For 8 months Israel has relentlessly bombed Gaza to rubble – schools, hospitals, ambulances, universities and places of worship have all been targets. Nothing has been spared. No one has been spared. Yet, all we’ve all heard from the Labor Government are hollow words and mild mannered statements. They are heartless, gutless cowards.
Disabled people deserve to live a life free from the fear of when the next government cuts are coming. They deserve to be listened to, and to have their voices heard. Labor’s NDIS bill only serves to take the scheme further from its roots and further from the vision outlined by disability activists who worked so hard for the #NDIS to be realised.
Today is a momentous day for animal welfare in parliament, with the end of the cruel live sheep export trade finally in sight! Debate has begun in the Senate and you can watch this space for news on the passing of the bill throughout the day. #EndLiveSheepExport
To fix a broken higher education system there must be an end to the corporate university and we must ensure unis are fully funded by government.
Labor and the Liberals are both climate wreckers. No nuclear. No new coal and gas.
Sadly, the @nteu_au’s findings are no shock to any of us. Wage theft in universities is a systemic scourge that is harming staff across the country. Enough is enough. It is time for the government to fix the broken business model of the neoliberal university that only works off the back of casual and underpaid staff. This must end.
For First Nations justice to be delivered, we must tell the truth. That’s why the Greens will introduce a bill to establish a Truth and Justice Commission.

Another step closer to ending the cruel live sheep export trade for good!
Coal and gas companies are wrecking the planet and ordinary people are paying the price. I’m chairing a Senate committee which will examine how the climate crisis is making it harder and more expensive for people to afford insurance. We want to hear from communities and individuals who are bearing the brunt of climate-driven risks. Make your submission to the inquiry today via the link in my bio.
