Can’t quite believe that our monkey was 6 months old (non corrected) recently. 6 months since the difficult end to my pregnancy and 6 months since his time in NICU. That stuff all seems like yesterday – Life flies by, that’s for sure… . It’s been a challenging 6months, with a very difficult start. Then we’ve had reflux/colic and CMPA just to make it all that little bit harder. . But wow what a precious little boy he is to us. Every day he seems to learn something new and develop his character that little bit more, and what a character he has. He definitely knows his own mind and is becoming a very strong-willed little boy, that’s for sure 😂 . . This memory popped up on my phone. The first Olympic distance triathlon I ever did! @thelondontri Managed to complete it in sub 3 hours which is something I’m super proud of. 🏃♀️ 🏊♀️ 🚴♀️ . . Since my spinal surgery in 2019, I haven’t done a single sporting event because I am now in pain every day and it sucks😩 . . I’m looking forward to one day, when the world returns to normal and my pain has hopefully eased a little 🤞, finding a sport event and training for it again. I just will perhaps need to take it a little easier next time. . . I’ve done so many events ranging from assault courses, triathlons, half marathons, full marathons and more 5k & 10k runs then I can remember…. November was Prematurity Awareness Month. As we enter a new month, one (hopefully!) filled with festive cheer, I think it’s important that we remember all the families still struggling with prematurity and all of the tiny babies currently in the NICUs, across the land…. . As you may know, our little boy was born in July this year, in the midst of the pandemic, 9 weeks early. (Born at 31 weeks). This is him in his incubator. There is nothing to show size perspective here, but he was tiny. Just over 3lb. He was in that incubator for the first 6 weeks of his life and I found those weeks terrifying and draining 😔💔 . I will always be grateful for the Hull Women’s and Children hospital staff who cared for us; the Maple ward team who looked after me during my (often very lonely, scary and overwhelming) month-long stay when my waters broke at 28weeks (people like Kat, Suzanne and Lindsey spring to mind, to name just a few), the midwife Jo, all the NICU staff who cared for my boy once he was born (way too many to mention), helping him first to breath and then gain strength and finally for Angela in outreach who’s support I appreciated so much. They all made a deeply distressing situation much better. . Covid made the whole experience much worse. I wasn’t allowed a single visitor whilst in hospital pre-birth. Once born, myself and my partner were not allowed to visit our son together and no other family members were allowed to visit him at all😔 . @Pampersuk_ire have partnered with the fab @Blisscharity and also @vCreateNeonatal to support premature babies and their families. For every use of the hashtag #PampersForPreemies Pampers will contribute to a neonatal unit to help fund tablet and WiFi dongle technology which will connect preemies and their families.
