And just like that, our little, much loved peanut head turned ‘1’. 👶🏻❤️☺️. He’s a beautiful, fun baby and the most inquisitive/curious little boy I’ve ever met. Nothing (and I mean nothing!) gets past him without a thorough investigation first 🤣 . . In my head, he’s not really 1 tho. He was born over 2 months prematurely so saying he’s one almost makes me feel a bit cheated out of his first year. So yes, he’s 1 on paper, but 10months old to us. (Once he gets past his first year from his due date, I guess it matters less but for now, to me, he’s 10 months). Any other preemie parents know what I mean? . . For his birthday, we kept things simple – I don’t like to spoil my son so we didn’t get him a single gift (poor kid 🤣🤦🏼♀️) and we kept things simple again with a gathering of friends at a local pub. It was so lovely to see everyone and bubba did get lots of lovely, kind gifts from friends and family (which I didn’t let him open all on one day but instead spread out over a week! 🤣🤣). I was touched by the effort people made ❤️ . . I was gonna do a nice 1st birthday pic Instagram style, but being honest – I couldn’t be bothered 🤣🤦🏼♀️ so here we are blowing out the cake candle and with a very untidy, birthday corner. . . I like to keep my bubba private but I share, as always, to give encouragement and hope to anyone who is currently experiencing PPROM or NICU to try and show you that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Woah! This picture just popped up on my phone reminders. This was exactly one year ago today. 😳 . I was 28 weeks pregnant and my water just suddenly broke. No warning signals at all. I was immediately hospitalised and was taken to theatre for an emergency c-section to bring my bubba out. I was in hospital for a month and then my bubba for 6 weeks (all through the pandemic). . . Despite the ‘thumbs up’, I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever been as afraid as I was here. . . I thank god we had a happy(ish!) ending. . . I had a morning work meeting in town today. Gotta say, I’m SO proud of myself for managing to get both myself and my (toddler tantrum) child up and out of the house looking reasonably presentable, all before 9am. The difficulty of this task, should not be underestimated 🤣🤦🏼♀️(no, I do not have a nanny). . . Both the view and most certainly the coffee were very much appreciated upon arrival at the meeting. I don’t like to ‘over share’ pictures of my bubba on social media but as many of you will know, the end of my pregnancy and the start of my son’s life were very scary times. As I myself laid in hospital for a month (when I lost all water at 28 weeks) and then as my tiny, tiny baby laid in an incubator on NICU (initially unable to breath independently) for 6 weeks after a very premature emergency c-section, I was absolutely terrified and desperately searched for examples of other people going through this who had ‘happy endings’. I promised that if we got through it all, I would share happy moments of my boy to help give comfort to those who are now in my situation. . . So here is our boy at his first nursery session. Was a very emotional moment with some tears (for me, not for him, he wasn’t remotely bothered! 🤣🤦🏼♀️). . . He is a happy, placid (although god knows where he gets that from!) beautiful, clever, funny, wonderful little boy and we all love him so very much ❤️ . . We’ve been on such a challenging journey (as I’ve always shared, pregnancy, childbirth and often motherhood isn’t always the happy experience that many paint it to be & I wish more where honest about that) and it means everything to me that things got better and that our boy is happy. . . Was SO good seeing friends this weekend. (I can’t believe I need permission from a government to even be in close proximity to my friends!). . . Protecting those most at risk of Covid was essential but the mental health of so many will have been decimated because of all these blanket lockdowns / restrictions.
