I remember standings at his table in artist alley with my shitty 7 page portfolio at some convention I can’t remember. he was working on a commission I can’t couldn’t tell at the moment, he was smiling the entire time, never made me feel like I was a bother just watching in awe. he just like, … DREW. didn’t even lay down any pencil linework, guides, NOTHING. he picked up a brush pen, dotted in one eye then immediately moved to shadows on the face, cheek bones, lips, expressions. I was very confused at what had happened. all I thought was, this man is the devil and I will follow him to hell if could get just 1% of his skills. I still would today. JPL left us 3 years ago this month. rest in(those) pencils John.

JUST finished painting the entire oversized first issue to my and @jefflemire’s new series with @dcofficial! We won’t be announcing it until I get further along on deadlines to make sure all issues publish on time but I swear Jeff REALLY blew everything out of the water- every script just giving me pure joy to draw. I can not wait to officially share it with everyone. oh- and yes. it’s Batman related. Really the only character I know how to draw.
