Spent 7 days solo exploring the Portuguese Island of Madeira in April 2023. I opted out of thru-hiking across the island for a more relaxed road trip with a rented car. I feel like I gained a lot of island driving experience going up and down impossibly steep side streets, winding mountain roads and even had to stop and reverse for the occasional tourist bus jump-scare. The Pico to Pico hike is one of the best day hikes I’ve ever done and is enough of a reason for anyone to visit. As always, my favorite moments were small, quiet ones far away from the busy cities. Meeting local cats, parking and droning massive cliffs, enjoying the sea breeze and drinking lots of espressos. I didn’t know Madeira existed a few months ago and now I’m grateful to have explored it. Hope you visit as well. #visitmadeira

Hiking 6 miles up and down from Pico Grande on Madeira Island, Portugal. Sometimes the meal after the hike is almost as good as the summit.
One of the best day hikes I have ever done. 12 miles Pico to Pico (the highest peak on Madeira Island). Lots of people but so make sure to get up early before sunrise for the cloud inversion. Full video on YouTube. #visitmadeira
