Singapore and the US share a deep and robust partnership, made possible by Congress’ continued support. Senator Young and I spoke about the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement which entered into force twenty years ago. This has anchored our mutually beneficial partnership, generating jobs and investments for both countries. Our longstanding defence and security ties are another pillar of our relationship, and we are now working together in new areas such as critical and emerging technologies.
We also discussed global and regional developments. The US has contributed tremendously to peace and prosperity in our part of the world, and Singapore continues to support its engagement in our region.
Senator Young wears many hats. In addition to serving on several Senate Committees, I learnt that he is actively promoting soccer in the US, as a member of the Congressional Soccer Caucus. I wished him all the best in this endeavour! – LHL
