“Art In Motion…” a Juneteenth poem I was commissioned by The Minnesota Symphony Orchestra to write. “It’s easy to be indifferent to Juneteenth when it’s solely viewed as Black History, but the Holy Truth is Slavery is white history too… As white as snow covered plantation fields in the winter cold. As white as cotton before picked by bloody pricked fingers. As white as white abolitionists. And as white as the men who owned slaves themselves.” Reposted from @minnorch Happy Juneteenth! Today and for the rest of the month, our full Juneteenth celebration concert is free to watch on our Digital Concert Hall. Here’s a selection from actor, musician and poet @malcolmjamalwar’s original work, Art in Motion. See the full performance, and the full concert, at the link 🔗 in our bio.
“Hiding In Plain View” available on all major music streaming platforms Tuesday 9.27.22. My dad’s birthday. He set me up, firstly by naming me Malcolm-Jamal, after Malcolm x and Ahmad Jamal. To a great extent I’m like his project that went right. This is my 4th as well as my most important album. And that’s my word. #blackfistbeautiful #hidinginplainview #poetry #spokenword #hiphop #malcolmjamalwarner #malcolmjamalwarnersmileslong #selflove #selfhealing
Truth from my beautiful brother and one of my favorite poets @prenticepowell1906. I’ll leave it at that…and keep sipping on this kombucha. My thoughts after watching the @betawards (I’ve ALWAYS wanted to perform on this stage. Always. But I’m sure this is gonna KILL any chance I ever have of performing at the BET Awards unfortunately) #Brilliantly done by those who are really in control. Using amazing writers & artist who DO TRULY care about the progress of our people to mask a hidden message that they cannot control. They baited us with the “it’s about US” intro and proceeded to feed us HOURS of ass in the name of Black Excellence. They fed us more flesh than Magic City in the name of black excellence. Then they sprinkled a beautiful moment of two little girls performing (Be You) to remind us that the children are the future & proceeded to give us more ass shaking immediately after . But what they didn’t feed us was the powerful speech Usher gave about black Fatherhood, perseverance, accountability & forgiveness. They muted that. And it got me to thinking… If I still thought with my genitalia, I’d be pleased. But what else should I expect from a NON BLACK OWNED network that has managed to convince the elites of black entertainment that @bet is their home? And if it were truly our home, why didn’t I see MORE women that reminded me of my momma, aunties & cousins performing? Why so much hyper sexualization of black women? Why does that have to be the leading image? Especially given the amount of black women behind the scenes who make this show poppin.

The first episode of our new podcast Nah…Not All Hood w Malcolm-Jamal Warner, just dropped today. I host with two of my good comrades, @candacekelleytv and @weusib333. Here we discuss all things related to Black culture. When people refer to the Black Community, it’s spoken of as if we are a monolith. But there are so many levels and lanes within the Black community. Several years ago @henrylouisgates said that “there are 42 million Black people in America, therefore there are 42 million ways to be Black.” We use @nah_notallhood as a forum to acknowledge and discuss the many lanes in our culture. This is a place for civil discourse and respectful challenging of ideas. Though we are friends we don’t always agree. This is a very vulnerable place for me bc I already know that my honesty may be off putting to some, but I/we are here to speak our truths. Whether you agree w me or not, we can no doubt all agree that these are important discussions to have. Please follow us at @nah_notallhood here on IG, #Spotify, #AppleMusic and #YouTube Shoutout to our dope producing team @laynef200 @kellybelove and @collarcandy_troy
🚨 NEW EPISODE ALERT 🚨 In honor of Father’s Day, NAH is excited to welcome the incredible Lamman Rucker—actor, educator, activist, and entrepreneur—to our show. @lammanruckerofficial 🌟 Join us for “Fatherhood Unfiltered,” an episode filled with inspiring stories and heartfelt moments. 🧡 Happy Father’s Day to our wonderful listeners! May your day be filled with love, joy, and cherished memories. 🎈 Episode 002 – Fatherhood Unfiltered Drops tomorrow Monday, June 17 2024 #NewEpisode #NAH #LammanRucker #FathersDay
Reposting my repost from a few years ago. Think about the lyrics of the dope shit you listen to. Biggie is mos def on my top fave list. Doesn’t mean I get to ignore the content. 95% of his and Jay Z, and PAC’s catalog is the opposite of spreading love and upliftment of our people. Yes, they have some uplifting songs. And yes, Nino Brown gave turkeys out on Thanksgiving. Being a fan doesn’t give me license to play dumb to the messaging of my fav Mcs music. I’m tired of figuring out a way to ignore my feelings when I hear the gratuitous use of n*gga and b*tch in my Black music. Some folks out here mad at me bc I question if the fight for our freedom was really about us being allowed to be dumb for free? We are victim to the programming. Disrespecting our own in a way that would be considered anti-Black if spit by anybody of any other race, has become so normalized that folks out here caping so hard for the programming and making me out to be a hater. Stop falling for the okey doke, folks. Come check out more truth that doesn’t always go down easy: follow us @nah_notallhood Repost: Not one lie told. We know that beginning in the late 80’s there was a concentrated and deliberate push by record labels to promote misogyny, murder, and mayhem in hip music over anything conscious. So much so that we have been conditioned to normalize blaxploitation and the degradation of Black men and women in our music. Think about how much of our Black music, when you take away the music and just listen to the lyrics, is actually anti-Black? Name 4 out of your top 5 emcees’s who aren’t talking about niggas and bitches as if hip hop couldn’t exist without those terms-and I’m not saying those emcees don’t exist, I’m saying YOUR TOP 5. That being said, I recognize that to find dope emcees who do not follow this trend takes a bit more time to deep dive than I have these days so I eagerly invite you to tag any dopeness I should pay attention to and post or at least tag myself. Because I’ve always been quite vocal about the elements of hip hop I hate, I would love for you to help me do a better job of accentuating the positive aspects we should celebrate. 🙏🏿✊🏿🤘🏿
I LOVE this message. Repost from @iknowdjlv … Go where you’re celebrated…

I’ma just shut up, let this ride, sip some kombucha, and get ready to see what kinda goofy sh*t some of y’all gonna have to say against this. Repost from @kimberlylatricejones • 🔥🚨 Exciting News Alert 🚨🔥 Stay tuned, fam! My vlog on @cartelnewssyndicate is making a comeback! 💥 CNS is all about that unapologetic trap hip hop culture, and I’m beyond grateful to have the opportunity to connect with young minds who truly need to hear my message. Months ago, I told myself that instead of putting energy into the things that rub me about hip-hop, instead of complaining-I should give shine to the aspects of hip-hop I dig. The recent @nah_notallhood video regarding @j.cole that went viral reminded me to go back to that idea. No need to defend my stance bc folks who really listened heard me speak of my love for Cole World. But I’m going to lean into my idea and start posting other MCs that I dig, most-not all-of whom will be unknown by the masses, but are artists that genuinely move me. I want whatever shine I can give to artists I dig to have an impact. Feel free to tag me or send me stuff, but PLEASE DO NOT ask me to post. If you ask, I will not. Let me post what I want to post when I want to post…. I’ve been meaning to post this brother for months and months now. He’s mad consistent with the double entendres and play on words. I dig bro a lot. Repost from @realnormansann • Here I come here I go . . . . . . . . . . . . #fyp #trending #hiphop #rap #normansann

🗣️✨We have to apologize We have been forced to cancel our Atlanta show of PVHH. We apologize as we know a lot of people were looking to spend their Father’s Day with us. 📍 @citywineryatl ☀️ It is 102 🥵 degrees currently in Atlanta and the venue breaker affecting the A.C. has malfunctioned. We take it as a sign that so many tickets went quickly City Winery could not stand the heat coming its way! 🫶🏽Most importantly it is against our care for you all to put you in a space where you all would be uncomfortable or pass out due to the heat. However, we are transferring all tickets sold to our SUNDAY August 11th PVHH Adult Prom Show. 🤸🏾🎉 🎂 The SUN 8/11 show WILL BE PvHH —you will not be missing out on anything! On 06.12.2024, our hosts visited Fox Studios for a segment on Good Day New York with Rosanna Scotto and Curt Menefee. Malcolm acknowledged that people might not agree with many of his perspectives, but with Candace and Weusi as co-hosts, he knows he can be vulnerable and challenged. Candace spoke about how she got to learn more about Malcolm through doing this podcast, while Weusi emphasized that we, as Black people, are not a monolith. They shared behind-the-scenes insights and discussed what listeners can expect. Don’t miss this special appearance, full video is up on our YouTube channel. #GoodDayNY #NotAllHood
