Michael Beach Instagram – Just read that #LEANONME opened in the movie theaters 35 years ago today. WOW! So we shot it 36 years ago in Patterson NJ and certain memories are as clear as a bell. Others not so much 🤣
If I remember correctly we had to do some small reshoots and publicity in LA and that might have been my first trip to LA. It was also the first indication that the studio was excited about and going to push the film. Morgan Freeman wasn’t a star yet so the main thing we had going for us was the director of ROCKY and THE KARATA KID, John Advilson. Of course, even though LEAN ON ME was Morgan’s first starring role, I do recall that he had gotten a best Supporting Oscar nomination for a film called STREET SMART where he played a smooth but dangerous pimp named Fast Black. He also smoked a scene in the film BRUBAKER where he played a tough ass lifer in prison. This was all from the man on ELECTRIC COMPANY😁 Remember when I flipped that desk on him? Tell you that story another time 😏✊🏿💪🏿

Anyway, it was a tough shoot for many reasons (maybe I’ll run through those one day) but it was also the first hit movie I had been a part of and I’d only been out of college and a professional actor for about 3 years. #actorslife🎭 #careermemories #longevity #morganfreeman
