Today is International Youth Day. Young people are Europe’s future, and we must provide them with the tools and knowledge to navigate the world of tomorrow.
At the ECB, we frequently engage with young Europeans and listen to their views. I hope the advice I have shared at events over the past months,
speaking from my own experience, will be of use to young people along whichever path they choose to follow.

Today is the second day of our Governing Council meeting in Frankfurt where we are discussing how to bring down inflation.
Stay tuned for our monetary policy decisions and follow our live press conference from 14:45 CET – more details via the link in our bio!
I’ve arrived in Sintra, Portugal, for this year’s #ECBForum on Central Banking. I’m looking forward to three days of interesting discussions with policymakers from all over the world about the economy and monetary policy in this era of transformation.
Changes in labour markets, the energy transition and a deepening geopolitical divide are characterising the post-pandemic environment, says President @christinelagarde at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium.
The return of high inflation globally is a visible consequence of these shifts. Our fight against inflation is not yet won. In this era of uncertainty, we need to set interest rates at sufficiently restrictive levels for as long as necessary to return inflation to our 2% target.
There are plausible scenarios where we could see a fundamental change in the nature of global economic relationships. To ensure stability and robust policymaking, we need:
🔵 Clarity on our objectives
🔵 Flexibility in our analysis
🔵 Humility in how we communicate

Heartfelt congratulations to Fabio Panetta on your appointment as Governor of Banca d’Italia.
Their gain will be our loss but, Mr Governor, I look forward to continuing our work together in the Governing Council – this is just an arrivederci!

That’s a wrap for this year’s Jackson Hole symposium in the beautiful Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming! Many thanks again @kansascityfed for hosting the event.
High inflation has caused anguish for many people, and our fight against it is not yet won.
Thanks to my fellow central bankers and all other participants for the interesting discussions on shifts in the global economy and the challenges they present for policymakers.

It was good to be in Brussels for the #Eurogroup.
We took stock of how the digital euro project is advancing and discussed the international role of the euro, based on the @europeancentralbank ’s recent report.
We also welcomed new finance ministers from Finland and Greece.

Research plays a crucial role in our work, and young academics can help us find fresh perspectives on the challenges we face. For this reason, I’d again like to thank all the Young Economist Prize finalists for their work and for presenting their papers at this year’s Forum. It was a pleasure to meet you in Sintra, Portugal.
We’re not declaring victory over inflation yet.
Our destination is 2% and we know there will be bumps on the road there.
This was my message in an interview with four newspapers based in the euro area.
It was great to discuss how central banks are fighting inflation with my peers from across the world. Thank you, US Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell and Banco Central do Brasil Governor Roberto Campos Neto for your insights, and to Sara Eisen for moderating.

We regularly speak with Europe’s elected representatives to hear the views and concerns of the people we serve and ensure we remain accountable to them.
Members of our Executive and Supervisory Boards were glad to welcome representatives of the
@europeanparliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in Frankfurt.
