This is Europe’s moment and we as policymakers have to deliver. That’ll be my message in my conversations this week at @the_imf and @worldbank Annual Meetings.
60% of Europeans with low financial literacy are women. This gender gap is a systemic issue that affects the entire European economic fabric, including our monetary policy and financial stability. We need to #AccelerateAction, advance women’s financial empowerment and take swift steps towards gender equality.

🇮🇪🇪🇺 Good morning from Dublin! I’m honoured to be here to receive the Sutherland Leadership Award, named after the late EU Commissioner and WTO Director General Peter Sutherland. I’ll also take the opportunity to meet students, hear their opinions and answer questions. Stay tuned!
🇪🇺 Working together for a stronger Europe!

🇮🇪🇪🇺 What a beautiful day I had in Dublin earlier this week! I experienced the céad míle fáilte or one hundred thousand welcomes ☘️ My visit to University College Dublin was especially memorable. Ad astra (“to the stars”) is the motto of the university and I felt surrounded by future stars as I answered questions from students. I was honoured to receive the Sutherland Leadership award, handed to me by my colleague Paschal Donohoe. Also great to meet with another colleague, Governor Gabriel Makhlouf, and to talk to Newstalk’s Pat Kenny.

‘I have never mentioned the word ‘uncertainty’ as many times as I have in the last few weeks.’ Ahead of Donald Trump’s tariff announcements, the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, explains that it is time for us to shift our focus away from America, and regain a ‘degree of independence’ that focuses on Europe’s strengths, on The Pat Kenny Show.
🇸🇰🇪🇺 What a start to my week yesterday in beautiful Bratislava! It may have been a little cold outside but I got the warmest of welcomes at Národná banka Slovenska. I was very impressed by the market set up by staff to raise funds for Giving Tuesday. I also saw the work of artist Martin Kubala, on display at the bank, and had rich discussions with staff, answering their questions on many different central banking topics.
