This is a photo from my annual Halloween party with my dearest friends & these are our children. Eight of these children are here because of IVF. Multiple others got here through another form of fertility – mine being one of them. Through tears, failures, struggles, prayers and needle pricks these babies are joyfully, ecstatically, finally here for many women that I love. Through women educating, mentoring and holding hands through the hardships of becoming a mother. We’re all women of faith especially because we believe that’s the only way you could possibly get through that journey. If I were to have more kids, IVF would be the only option. IVF is the only option for so, so many. What if it were you? Your mother? Your daughter ? Your spouse? What if someone was taking away your only chance to carry a child? What if ? It truly devastates me that there are women in my state in the thick of this hell right now. I’m so sorry for you, for y’all. I wish I could hold your hand, let you cry the alligator tears that these pumped up hormones produce, ice your many bruises on the pin cushion your body has become. I wish I could tell you it’s going to be ok, but it’s not ok, is it ?
Tomorrow I leave to embark on a dream come true, what I’ve worked my whole career for, type of project. Tomorrow I’ll leave my family, my work, my home for four weeks. I’ll be thrilled, excited to jump on the plane and I’ll be heartbroken as my home gets smaller and smaller through the view from my window. I’ll be pinching myself every minute, taking in every lesson, learning, growing and working as hard as I possibly can to succeed. I’ll also be missing the house that plays my favorite music of children giggling, dogs pitter pattering, and roosters crowing every morning. I’ll start each day with a smile on my face, thrilled at the opportunity I’m living, ecstatic that I’ve been chosen to do it, in a place I love dearly. I’ll also start each day with a phone call to study the tiny faces that I’ll swear have changed since I’ve left, the little voices that I’ll pry to hear from at first light. I’ll shed tears of gratitude and tears of yearning. Today I did my best, through blood-shot eyes, to answer curious, wandering questions from the mouths of my babes. When they’re older, I hope they’ll just be proud and able to give me grace. This is what work life balance is y’all. It’s never a balance but it’s always worth it.

A few thoughts : 1- These pics are both my life and that’s amazing and bizarre and wild all at the same time. 2- It turns out you don’t actually dislike specific clothes and some of the things about the way clothes fit you, you just need @charlotterosecoleman to buy them and size them for you. 3- Being fake tan is powerful. 4- Listening to @postmalone while trying on a full new stylish wardrobe is luxury ok. 5- Fitted and black is literally always the right answer.

I got the first copy of my new book, Southern Get Togethers right before I left town. Y’all I am so dang thrilled to put this book out there. It’s filled to the brim with practical, never precious entertaining. Photos photobombed by dogs, trampolines, chickens, curious little faces and tiny busy hands. Supportive sisters, turned assistants, turned models for the day. Crows-feet lined laughs brought on by genuine friends who literally show up in any way to support me- que the posed dinner parties. Tables set with napkins monogrammed by my mom, silver handed down from grandmothers, glasses nicked from free flowing champagne toasts. It’s purposefully lacking refinement, constantly bringing us down to reality. The magic really isn’t in the little details y’all- it’s in the memories you make around the table and being present to truly enjoy it. Because hosting is the ultimate form of giving and then receiving love, a tradition I’m passionate about honoring and passing down to the next generation. I hope y’all look to this book as your ultimate guide in enjoying the art of hosting, the biggest cheerleader and friend to set your next table with. Preorder #southerngettogethers NOW at the link in my bio or wherever books are sold. All photos by the best @antonisachilleos

Blistered feet bliss after an 18 hour work day. Current thoughts: I dabbled in food in high school and college but truly started this career officially when I moved to NY for culinary school at 20 years old. I started my first real job at 21, opened my catering company at 23, my first restaurant at 24, my second at 25. At 26 I closed my first – failing restaurant – just a few short months after I got married. Great timing lemme tell ya. At 28 I fully, shaky-knees , invested in the revitalization of my small downtown as we drastically expanded the restaurant ( also que @bravotopchef ). In the meantime, I’ve bought more property, invested more, grown, failed, learned, & started other endeavors. But I can’t tell y’all how much of this time I’ve spent feeling like a total failure. And now, at 35, I feel like I’m finally hitting my stride, and working towards my dream career. Lesson learned – you’re never too old to start over and it really is never too late.
When your child turns seven you get dead legged to the ground outside the restaurant of their choosing then physically assaulted to round out a day of whatever they wanted to do. Motherhood is just the freaking best.

My new book is chock-full of pictures that value special moments, memories & meaning, but these bts shots that Antonis so artfully captured hold the most weight. I’m not entirely sure if this is a good or bad thing, but I truly have no hard intentions or big dreams for my kids. I want them to be kind to themselves & others, work hard, be brave, chase happy. But the one silly thing I’ve always dreamed of was to have a bunch of crab trap babies like me, my siblings, cousins, generations before us were. I believe it’s the strongest blood tradition we have- this need to be on the water. We learned to set a trap & clean a crab before we were out of diapers, quite literally. Set & cast a line like a passed down muscle memory. This view is the reason we signed the sale of this beach house & buying it was one of the strongest personal goals I had for myself. To be able to provide a simple, marshy, salt water soaked life for my kids in the midst of this busy, ever-connected life we live. Where days are scheduled around boat rides, swims & golden hours. Meals cooked based on what we caught, what they cleaned, what we bought from our garden. I’ve been away two-ish weeks now & this view, with them, is what I miss the most. My second book, Southern Get Togethers, is available for pre-order now or at the link in bio.
❤️🤍💙 Do you ever stop to remember that THESE are the days ? I have a lot , these days.
