To be honest, I don’t know if I have a favorite part, because I love it all. I can say, though, that the moment I walk into a blank slate of a property is definitely top 3. Everyone around me might only see a construction zone, but I see the potential of what it could be. My mind is moving staircases, knocking down walls and installing stone adorned fireplaces. Caption : Raising babies and toddlers is an experience; any mom will tell you that. The first couple of years they call the “terrible” 2’s. The thing is, age 3 can be just as tough! Toddlers are coming into their own awareness and wanting to test their independence, which can be very trying for moms. The years get progressively easier, so if you’re a mom going through the “terrible” or “tough,” know that you have what it takes to raise curious, developing kids. Caption : Looking back on the work that was done on my new beach home, there were so many emotions. I felt excitement, doubt, and everything in between during the entire process. Now that the house is OFFICIALLY DONE, I can honestly say all of the feelings that went along with the work were all worth it. My home is gorgeous, and everyone at the housewarming loved everything. Caption : Someone once said, “find your happy place, and go there often.” I wholeheartedly agree! The moment we touched down at the “White Isle” I felt it. I felt the serenity. Life is just different here. It’s hard to put a finger on it exactly… but time moves differently. Muscle tension melts away, breathing slows, and I can just feel my nervous system start to regulate. Caption : If you watched yesterday’s reel, you know I adore a touch of metallics in a space. You also know I’m a fan of mixing hardware finishes and colors. This is a perfect example of that! Though this space has brass accents, I love this faucet in black and the way it plays so well against the stone with those complementing shades. If you’re not ready to commit to full on black, consider a darker bronze. It will give you the same richness and contrast. I leaned into stately stone throughout my home—my shower walls, kitchen counters, refrigerator and more.That meant I needed less decorative elements scattered about. Stone feels regal and timeless. When you install it in a space, let it take its rightful place as the leading role. Give it room to be the star. Elegance is in the simplicity. I could have never imagined how many surprises life would have in store for me along the way of this journey, some amazing, some challenging. But motherhood has been the best gift I could have ever been given. This Mother’s Day feels especially beautiful as I get to give my greatest gifts— my boys, the gift of our new home. The meaning of home is too vast for words, but when I see the comfort, joy and peace in their little faces as we begin to settle in, I know I made the right choice. My heart is full today. Caption : Are you a good swimmer? Are your kiddos? It’s hard to believe these are the same kids who needed floaties and pep talks before hopping in the water. Now they’re swimming pros, and one is even a regular surfer! I will never regret all of the swimming lessons and water safety courses. Some parents worry about the day their kids start driving. I think about the day these two are driving a boat without me! We will always live near the ocean (whether U.S. or abroad), so comfort with and in water is a big deal around here. As many of you know, I spend a great deal of time advocating for the girls and women in Kenya—both in the field (on the actual continent of Africa) and here in the States through various fundraising and educational efforts. A short time ago we took our cause to Capitol Hill where we laid everything before the lawmakers of our country. We told them the firsthand stories of the girls in single digits who were forced to undergo FGM and be married as children. We will NOT stop until every girl has the opportunity to live a life free of this harmful practice. My heart beats for these young women. Caption : If you visit Ibiza, you’ll likely see the red cherry logo or sculptures *somewhere*. The famous cherries are all about Pacha Ibiza (@pachaofficial) , one of the most well known nightclubs in the area. People have always given me strange looks when I tell them I regularly take my little kids to Ibiza. I think they picture non stop partying with nothing but scantily-clad adults. Well, there’s a bit of that too. However, one of the things I’ve always loved about Ibiza is how kid-friendly the island is! We go to dinner and the DJ is playing, the kids are dancing and the adults are loving life. Ibiza is a sort of choose-your-own-adventure kind of getaway, and we always have an amazing time.
