I can’t speak for every designer, but if you want to capture Breegan’s heart, show her a timeless look in a space. In my book, you can NEVER go wrong with a tuxedo design. A black and white combination always reads as classy, and it will forever be en vogue. For example, look at this DIYer’s bathroom transformation. Eliminating the bathtub takes the overall presentation up several notches, but it’s the tuxedo incorporation that truly brings the WOW factor. I love everything about this! . . . 🎥: @jondavolio

If you lined up 100 designers and asked them all what their favorite part of the design process is, you’d likely get 100 different answers. To be honest, I don’t know if I have a favorite part, because I love it all. I can say, though, that the moment I walk into a blank slate of a property is definitely top 3. Everyone around me might only see a construction zone, but I see the potential of what it could be. My mind is moving staircases, knocking down walls and installing stone adorned fireplaces. Those are the moments I realize just how much of a true creator and creative I really am.
Swimming and water safety lessons: best investment EVER. All parents understand the concerns around children and water. We want them to be protected no matter the circumstance. But watching the growth in my boys shows me every day that encouraging your kids to learn new skills is less about your fears as a parent and SO much more about your kids’ confidence in their own capabilities. I love a good interior redesign or home renovation. They reveal so much about the creative spark that the designer had when working on the project. More than the reveal, I really appreciate seeing what the space looked like BEFORE the renovation. It gives me more of an appreciation for what was done. “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” – unknown Listen, prepare for allllllll the Ibiza content, because we are absolutely in our personal haven. But, there is so much to love here. I watch the boys exploring and having so many new experiences. They’re completely self-led, guided only by their own curiosity, and the learning that results from it is simply invaluable. For me, this is part of what being immersed in a different culture allows. I know these experiences will enrich my sons’ lives in ways I haven’t even thought of yet. I’m looking forward to what else this time has to offer! #experiencesoverthings
Raising babies and toddlers is an experience; any mom will tell you that. The first couple of years they call the “terrible” 2’s. The thing is, age 3 can be just as tough! Toddlers are coming into their own awareness and wanting to test their independence, which can be very trying for moms. The years get progressively easier, so if you’re a mom going through the “terrible” or “tough,” know that you have what it takes to raise curious, developing kids. You’re doing so much better than you think!
As I bask in the Ibizan sun watching my sons take turns DJing for our guests, it gets harder and harder to believe I’ll have teenagers in a few years! There will probably be a part of me that will always see them as the tiny tots in this photo, one on my hip and one holding mommy’s hand. I love watching them gain so much independence as they grow, but man is it bittersweet! Time really does fly when you’re having fun. I’m determined to soak it all up!
It’s said that variety is the spice of life. That’s true in interior design, too. Sometimes it pays to shake things up a bit. I took a refrigerator out of one project, and it left a unique-looking space in the kitchen. Spending time in Ibiza only reminds me of how much my soul longs to live in a peace-filled, tropical environment, literally all the time! I’m lucky, because while I don’t live in Ibiza full-time, I do live just steps from the beach. As for the moments I’m missing Spain…well, I’ll always have the spaces in my home where I’ve created a curated, Spanish oasis for myself AND my friends to enjoy. What story does your home tell about you? It’s one of my favorite things about designing spaces. I get to assist a family in writing their visual narrative, one that every guest will experience. It’s kind of amazing what two people can do when they put their heads (and hands) together. Something like slat panels can be very tedious, but the final impact can result in such a timeless presentation in a room. The fun part about designing a rental space is that I get to let go of the limitations I’d typically have with an everyday use space. This home has a butler’s pantry, and it’s a bit of an unconventional layout in my opinion. Instead of reworking the entire area, I decided to lean into “the funky” and give it presence that set it apart from the rest of the home. I think it works! For me, it’s a simple concept. Life is beautiful, but it’s only made that much greater when you share it with people who love you, support you and truly GET you. I’m in Ibiza with people who make the sunshine feel warmer, the ocean waves a little bluer and the joy? Immeasurable. Value the people in your life. They are what count.
