Jack Aitken Instagram - First race at ‘The Green Hell’. Walking away with a class win, a surprisingly heavy bag of meat, and very wide eyes!

Getting your Permit for the infamous Nordschleife circuit isn’t a simple one, for good reason. You need to take a series of theory and practical courses, before accumulating 18 race laps in the lower powered classes, like the one I raced here, snappily named VF2-FWD. There are an absolute litany of classes here (see my meme), but ours is basically a stripped-out road car with slicks. This means it’s actually harder to drive than a full blown GT3 racer, lift-off oversteer is real. 😅

I was lucky to be with people who know what they’re doing, @walkenhorstmotorsport, and my teammates @baileyvoisin and @manuel_maldonado33. I did the first half of our 4hr race, and my gosh the things I saw… 😂 As well as epic slipstream battles on the 2.5km Döttinger straight, I drove with my eyes in the mirror as faster cars sailed past at impossible speeds for my poor little Hyundai, drove past flatbed trucks on their way to recover cars that had crashed somewhere on this mammoth 21km ‘track’ and scared myself silly a few times when the already-close barriers starting inching closer…

I somehow (genuinely, no idea how) got us from P4 in class to the lead at the halfway mark. My teammates finished it off to take a win on my first attempt at the Nordschleife! I should really walk away now with the 100% record 😂

I’ll be back next year to get my remaining laps, for now though attention goes back to our regular schedule with Petit Le Mans next week…

Jack Aitken Instagram - Golly that one hurts. 2nd by just a couple of seconds in the Rolex Daytona 24. Nearly 24 hours of fighting for inches of tarmac, gathering energy for ‘one’ more push, willing your teammates on with all your heart, trying not to think about the end result whilst only thinking of how to get there. Coming that close means all the hope that crept up on you in the final stages gets crushed, and it stings. But we had a good race.

Those who missed it, we were circulating in the top positions nearly all race long, and everyone in the team was flawless. Pipo and I pulled longer stints during the night hours as we tried to rest up Tom for the final sprint, let him sleep as we worked to keep the car healthy and near the front. It looked to work perfectly, as he pulled a beautiful move on the #7 Porsche with just over an hour to go for the lead. We thought that was the win right there. Sadly, a caution came out shortly after. We are the first pit box in pitlane, which means our rivals can watch us and ‘short’ their fuel stop to jump ahead of us. They then simply have to save a touch more fuel, and hold that position. This is exactly what happened, and we felt powerless watching on, despite Tom putting in a heroic effort to try and pass again.

2nd at Daytona is not to be sniffed at, and it bodes well for the year ahead. A huge thank you to Pipo, Tom, Whelen Engineering and Cadillac Racing for creating this awesome crew. And hats off to Porsche Penske and their drivers, it was a heck of a battle.

Jack Aitken Instagram - I did a painful thing, and I’ve been trying to think of a caption that isn’t a humble-brag, and it’s difficult… I climbed Mont Ventoux from all 3 sides by bike in one ride, and I’m quite proud of it.

📊 Numbers 📊
Mt. Ventoux summits at just under 2,000m.
On the long descents I hit a max speed of 80km/h.
I spent 5.5 hours climbing, the rest of the time was descending and transition miles.
Total calorie burn was 4,453.
To offset this I consumed over half a kilo of sugar and 4.7 litres of water.
All in all, I rode for just over 7 hours with less than an hour of stop time.

I’d spent a while planning this ride, and that’s definitely half the fun, but actually following through and dealing with the suffering to finish it was a big achievement for me. I came close to quitting at the 2nd summit, as I was feeling low physically and mentally. The effort up to then, plus the heat on the lower slopes contrasted with the freezing mist and winds at the summit, was taking a toll. I also knew if I did the freezing half-hour descent through the clouds to the final climb, from Sault, I would have no option other than to climb it to get home. Thankfully, that being the ‘easiest’ side of Ventoux and the mental push of it being the last one helped me to finish it off! Even better, the clouds had burnt off by the time I got back to the summit, so I was rewarded with the warm sun as I collapsed to take the *three* selfie.

Definitely one of my less restful ‘holidays’ but I loved it. Thanks to @jimbobarooney_d and @maxaitken49 for the good vibes and bottle hand up, and @sramroad, @zippspeed, @sportful_uk and @viresvelo for the exceptional kit, run down below:

Factor Ostro V.A.M.
Sram Red AXS (48-35 and 10-33 gearing, needed a lower gear!)
Zipp 454 NSW Wheels and Conti GP5000 S TR set up tubeless (🤤)
Sportful Bomber Jersey (comfy aero 👌🏻)
Sportful LTD Bibshorts
Sportful Hot Pack Norain Jacket (perfect for the chilly descents)

Jack Aitken Instagram - I proudly present to you the latest Aitken x Koop collab, courtesy of @stilo_official. The Thistle. 🌷

Inspiration came from the classic emblem of Scotland, the thistle, a prickly yet beautiful flower that blooms bright purple from the cold greens and greys of the British countryside. The little dashes of gold were thrown in to set off the muted greens and bright purples. On the back we have the motto of The Order of the Thistle (yes it’s a thing), which translates to “Nobody attacks me with impunity”, referring to our prickly nature. Let’s hope that rings true this season 😉 I’m glad to see it’s already been given the thumbs up by a few of you (swipe to the end)!

Jack Aitken Instagram - ⚡️ANNOUNCEMENT⚡️ I will be racing in @dtm.official for a second season with @emil_frey_racing!

After becoming a race winner last year, we want to go back and achieve even more. The unique calendar, the top-notch competition, and general buzz around DTM is why I wanted to be back. First round is in Oschersleben, and I cannot wait.

Jack Aitken Instagram - Two selfies with my trophies, one from @dtm.official and one from the fans 🍻

Awesome to kick the year off with a win, felt good the whole race and led until a FCY threw a spanner in the works, with Marco managing to jump ahead! That luck came back around though when he stopped with a few mins to go. Heartbreaking for them, but well deserved for the whole @emil_frey_racing crew.

20kg of success ballast going in the car for tomorrow, let’s see what we can do…

Jack Aitken Instagram - Fair to say we’ve come away from the #Sebring12 battered and bruised, but thankfully @pipoderani is fine after being tagged by a GTD and having a monster shunt. It was a heart-stopping few seconds while Pipo was upside down and not yet radioing in.

We had some awesome battles along the way, and an incredibly fast @whelenmotorsports @cadillacvseries car, so it stings to lose a good result and a potential back to back. It just means we know we are wicked fast, and will be hunting for wins next time out… 😉

Even if we didn’t get the W on track, home-made pizza by the campers lit by fireworks counts as W in the catering department for me.

Jack Aitken Instagram - 2023 IMSA GTP Champions, in the Overall, Endurance, and Manufacturer’s titles. Clean sweep. 🏆🏆🏆

In typical IMSA style, we lost the race and title about 6 times and then won it back 6 times 😂 A topsy-turvy 10 hours, we were constantly fighting different cars for seemingly championship-winning positions, whether it was the #10 Acura, the #6 or #7 Porsche, the #25 BMW… Everyone had a moment when it looked like it was going their way. Early on we had setbacks, with a collision in pitlane giving us damage to repair and a penalty for running the red light at pit exit. We went a lap down, which could’ve been the end of our hopes, but we pulled it back on a caution and slowly worked our way back to the front. Alexander pulled an absolutely mammoth stint in the middle of the race, so much so we had to pit him to stop him exceeding the 4 hour drive time limit!! I got in with just over half the race to go and spent most of my triple stint battling with the #10 on track supremacy, something that could’ve been vital going into the final portion of the race. We swapped back and forth as we blitzed through traffic, and I can say it was one of the most intense races I’ve ever had as I pulled out all the stops to race them. I came in with an hour and a half to go ahead of them, but behind the #01 Caddy, so a championship winning position. Not saying much, as things would turn upside down a few more times over before the race end! Pipo raced his heart out, and made sure he fought off the challenges of others as well as passing the BMWs at the end to ensure we had the points we needed. Just a thrilling race from start to finish, and fitting that all 3 of us had to pull absolutely huge efforts to get it done, not to mention the entire @whelenmotorsports and @cadillacvseries crew. They sacrificed so much over the last 18 months, and this is a fantastic reward that I’m happy to have played a part in helping. And a mention to our rivals, who pushed us all the way.

Jack Aitken Instagram - If I look slightly bedraggled, it was a rough, wet and wild weekend, so cut me some slack 😅

Brutal changing conditions made for really fun racing yesterday, and even today I loved getting the elbows out with some paint trading. Sadly it was for the mid pack positions as we didn’t have the pace this weekend, only coming away with a few points. These are the ups and downs of GT3 racing though, so it’s onto Zandvoort next time in a couple of weeks…

Jack Aitken Instagram - DTM 2023 is done, but not before battles so close that I burnt my Ferrari’s nose on our rivals exhaust pipes!🧯

This weekend was typical GT3 wheel-to-wheel action, which Hockenheim always caters to quite well. We suffered a lot in the very sharp, low speed hairpins, but were quick elsewhere on the lap which made for pretty dynamic racing. I took to the grass more than a few times, not for fun, but because our overtaking options were so limited. But I love that kind of problem solving in the car! The results were just ‘ok’, a 7th and a 10th, but the way we achieved them was simply lovely as some say.

And a big congratulations to the @emil_frey_racing pit crew, who not only set the fastest pitstop of the year this weekend, but were crowned Pitstop Challenge champions in their debut year! 🙌🏼

Many of you have already asked about next year, and I would love to return. It depends on a few things, but keep an eye out for news soon. ☺️

Jack Aitken - 8.1K Likes - First race at ‘The Green Hell’.

Caption : First race at ‘The Green Hell’. 😅 I was lucky to be with people who know what they’re doing, @walkenhorstmotorsport, and my teammates @baileyvoisin and @manuel_maldonado33. Jack Aitken - 5.7K Likes - Golly that one hurts.

#BeIconic #CadillacRacing @bcpix @alelbuth 📸

Nearly 24 hours of fighting for inches of tarmac, gathering energy for ‘one’ more push, willing your teammates on with all your heart, trying not to think about the end result whilst only thinking of how to get there. Jack Aitken - 5K Likes - I did a painful thing, and I’ve been trying to think of a caption that isn’t a humble-brag, and it’s difficult… I climbed Mont Ventoux from all 3 sides by bike in one ride, and I’m quite proud of it.

📊 Numbers 📊

Caption : I did a painful thing, and I’ve been trying to think of a caption that isn’t a humble-brag, and it’s difficult… I climbed Mont Ventoux from all 3 sides by bike in one ride, and I’m quite proud of it. 📊 Numbers 📊 Mt. Jack Aitken - 4.6K Likes - I proudly present to you the latest Aitken x Koop collab, courtesy of @stilo_official.

After becoming a race winner last year, we want to go back and achieve even more. The unique calendar, the top-notch competition, and general buzz around DTM is why I wanted to be back. First round is in Oschersleben, and I cannot wait.

Jack Aitken - 4.2K Likes - Fair to say we’ve come away from the #Sebring12 battered and bruised, but thankfully @pipoderani is fine after being tagged by a GTD and having a monster shunt.

#BeIconic #CadillacRacing @bcpix 📷

Jack Aitken - 3.6K Likes - If I look slightly bedraggled, it was a rough, wet and wild weekend, so cut me some slack 😅

Jack Aitken - 3.6K Likes - DTM 2023 is done, but not before battles so close that I burnt my Ferrari’s nose on our rivals exhaust pipes!🧯
