@curtisleejamie took me to this yesterday and I’m still thinking about it. Installed along the bank of the Danube River in Budapest, conceived by Can Togay with sculptor Gyula Pauer, the monument consists of 60 pairs of 1940s-style shoes, true to life in size and detail, sculpted out of iron. It depicts the shoes left behind by the thousands of Jews who were murdered by the Arrow Cross. Forced to take off their shoes, shot, and then thrown into the river.
Another new artistic adventure begins today taking me to another country to do a project with funny ladies whom I ADORE and RESPECT. Leaving @jasonrlandau and the family was so hard because I just returned from Europe, but they understand that Daddy has to work. I think it’s paramount for our kids to see their parents following their passion, and for them to see us being scared but going for it anyway. They also know that, yes…I’m doing it for me to reach my goals and follow my own dreams, but more importantly…they know it’s for THEM. I remember when I was little, my dad lost his job suddenly and the only work he could find was to do a couple seasons as a crab fisherman near Alaska. It was extremely dangerous work and daunting & he was gone for months and months….but we knew he was doing it because he loved us. I’m not comparing crab fishing to movie-making…but the sacrifice is the same. Time away from the family, which is priceless. Shoutout to all the families who have to be separated for any extended period of time. I feel you. I am you. ❤️

How I miss live theatre. Was just reading about Broadway’s exciting re-opening this fall and it got me in my feelings about the magic of Broadway. This was from “Finians Rainbow” by Harburg & Saidy, with music by Burton Lane. My leading lady was the peerless @realkatebaldwin and we had the most glorious time. Counting the minutes until all of my theatre family is back on the boards creating their art and sharing their souls with the world. #Broadway #SupportLiveTheatre

My Dad always said… “I don’t trust people who don’t like animals.” I’ve always taken that to heart. Last night we lost our beloved Billie Jean. @jasonrlandau had her before he had me. She’s been by our side through it all. The purchase of our first little home together, the death our fathers, the birth of our children, and everything in between. Always steadfast and loving, always there to comfort. To love unconditionally. Watching our kids go through this pain is exceedingly difficult, for as a parent you want to take their pain away. But of course we know, we can’t do that. We can only walk with them through the pain…for that is the very nature of life itself. See you on the other side sweet Billie Jean. 💔

David Zinn (recent @thetonyawards winner for @stereophonicplay ) is doing the set design, music direction by Darryl Archibald, and choreographed by @ani.taj.
