Time to address this straight-up racist myth.
Navigating anything “reparations” is no easy feat, so instead of ignoring extreme comments on social media, I decided to address some of the most (frankly) racist replies and debunk the persistent anti-reparations tropes, which seem to resist truth with the forever-energy of zombies in a B-movie.
Here I challenge a misconception about Black self-sufficiency and present historical examples of how Black independence—in the press, commerce, and thriving communities like Tulsa, Oklahoma—were systematically undermined and destroyed by organized white supremacists.
