I cannot wait for you to get to know Sally Rippin on Better Homes and Gardens tonight. Sally is Australia’s Children’s Laureate – which means for 2 years she is the national Ambassador for Reading. Actually – that’s underselling the honour – it’s like being named ‘Australian Of the Year’ for Authors. Her personal mission as Laureate is to drive home that ‘All Kids Can Be Readers – but that it’s ok if they access stories in lots of different ways…. From picture books, audio books, comic books, braille or through novels. She is Australia’s highest selling female Author who has written over 100 books for Children and Young Adults. If you have any children, nieces or nephews or know your friend’s children or grandchildren, I guarantee you they would know her ‘Billie Brown’ or ‘Hey Jack’ series. Sally and I went and visited a school in Melbourne and she was greeted by the children as an absolute rock star! They all knew her, and could name many of her book series. Watching Sally chat with ease with the children, and the way she unlocked their imaginations was pure joy to witness. This woman is an absolute gem, and she is passionate about the work she is doing as an Author and as our National Laureate. I really hope you enjoy getting to know her on tonight’s show. A huge thank you to Kristin Darell and Justine Burton for helping us co-ordinate this story. ❤️❤️❤️ @bhgaus @sallyrippinauthor @ozchildrenslaureate @krisddarell @justineburton73

I feel incredibly honoured to have recently been asked to voice the story of @itsharrijames for episode 8 of season 4 of the ‘No Laughing Matter’ Podcast called, ‘We Must Feel Proud.’ @nolaughingmatterau tells real life stories of interfamilial child sexual abuse – otherwise known as incest. All of these stories of survivors on the podcast are told by the chosen voice of victim survivors, which is why I feel so privileged to have been asked by Harri. It is hoped that through a known voice telling their stories, that it will make it easier for people to hear them… and then hopefully raise awareness to aid ‘No Laughing Matter’ to keep up their phenomenal work, to help stamp out Child Sexual abuse, as well as giving control back to the victim survivors. The figures in our country are absolutely shameful when it comes to child sexual abuse, and anything that helps us shift our attitudes towards discussing and repairing this taboo topic is a step in the right direction. Harri is an exceptional young man, an incredible award winning advocate, a proud father, speaker, co-founder of the #yourreferenceaintrelevant campaign and a survivor. ❤️ Harri was with me in studio the day I got to record his story, speaking his words. It was such an emotional day for both of us. Afterwards, I received one of the most beautiful thank you notes I’ve ever opened. I asked Harri if I could share this bit from it.. ….’Just imagine if we all treated each other’s stories with this same compassion, respect, and kindness — what a better place the world would be…” Harri – thank you. I feel so lucky that you even asked me to do this. I hope you can listen to Harri’s story, and many other survivors stories and show them the kindness and compassion they deserve. Because these stories need, and deserve to be heard. Also, a Huge thanks to Tanya Lee from @corrileefoundation for letting me be a part of something so special. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️ you

“My recovery from trauma has not been a linear journey, but rather a process that doesn’t necessarily have a final destination. It’s marked by ups and downs, triumphs and setbacks. There are days when I feel progress is tangible, and days where the weight of the past looms. But amid it all, I still feel an enormous amount of hope, empowerment and passion. To my fellow victim-survivors, I want to offer my words of solidarity. Our voices and stories matter, as does healing. We shouldn’t have to choose between our wellbeing and the pursuit of justice, nor should we be defined by our past. We’re defined by our resilience, courage and unwavering spirit. To stand on two feet after facing such adversity is such a commendable thing to do. We must feel proud..” – Joh Griggs voices Harri’s journey @johgriggs7 @itsharrijames S4E8 Listen now on Spotify or www.nolaughingmatter.org.au Thanks for your support @kidshelplineau @blackdoginst @beyondblueofficial @steppingoutprogram @nolaughingmatterau @corrileefoundation #survivors #believesurvivors
How long, on average, would you say most of us delay seeking support for our mental health? Two years? Five? Six? The answer, based on research, is closer to 11 years from the time issues start to emerge. Over that period, a small problem could become a big one. And people endure distress they need not. Almost one third of us will experience an anxiety condition in our lifetime. One in 7 of us will experience depression. Barely half will get support. Beyond Blue is working to change this. We’re focusing on helping people understand the signs of anxiety and depression early, so they get support earlier, before things snowball or reach crisis point. Beyond Blue has started a new push to help people understand the value of addressing their mental health concerns early. And we’re reminding people that Beyond Blue has range of free, effective, and confidential supports and services that operate around the clock. We’re grateful to the members of our lived experience community, Blue Voices, who helped us describe and design the words and feelings you hear and see here. Before things get beyond you, there’s Beyond Blue. 💙💙💙💙💙
