Over at our #ChurchLaneProject the floors had undergone decades of renovations leaving the house jumbled with carpet in some rooms, original hardwood in others and even new laminate flooring in the kitchen. Originally our goal was to patch in the laminate and carpeted areas with a salvaged gym floor that we sourced from @rbxcle and then stain them to match the original hardwood. But after multiple failed attempts to get the perfect stain that matched the original hardwood we turned to my trusty old friend… white paint! Sometimes it is exactly what an old home needs to bring everything together. And trust me, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that painting these floors white was one of the harder decisions I have ever made during a reno, but I am so happy we did! Swipe through to see how we did it. Step 1: Make sure to sand and clean your floors before getting started. Step 2: Get your paint! This is the best floor paint (other than a true epoxy) that we have found yet — it’s an industrial oil-based paint that is super durable but also reflects light in the most beautiful way. The product we used is linked out in the source guide for this project on my website and in my stories! To note: the paint is tinted Shoji White from Sherwin Williams to match the walls. Step 3: Work your way around the room with your paint brush to cut in all of your edges. Step 4: Use a paint roller to fill in the remaining space in the middle of the room. Step 5: Do a total of 3 coats and make sure to give it 24hrs in between each coat. This fireplace was yet another “silly solution,” as my daughter likes to call it, that @williamsonconstructionpgh and I came up with during the design process. I knew that this primary bath needed a fireplace that was level with the bathtub (…for ultimate cozy vibes). I just wasn’t exactly sure how to get there, but I had some sheets of copper that I purchased from a plumbing website a while back lying around, and they got my wheels turning! One idea led to another and another and another… and ultimately this is what we came up with! See slide eight for the part of the design process where I start to question if I have truly lost it this time! … The real question is, why has no one designed a beautiful ventless fireplace insert yet?! And if you know of one… please do us all a favor and let us in on the secret — ASAP! I don’t think my heart can bear the sight of another sad faux log set. Speaking of that, you’ll notice that we swapped out the faux log set that came with this insert for ceramic fireproof stones.
