On Friday I had to say goodbye to the best being there is. She was nearly 17. Because of Gracie I learned what this feeling of unconditional love is. And now I need to somehow deal with the loss of her in my life. I don’t really know where to start in telling who she was, she gave me everything and asked for nothing. I learned so much from her. For her whole life I always knew where she was at any given minute, and now I don’t. That’s one of the hardest parts for me. She was kind, generous, willful, funny, fabulously disobedient, very vocal, and so loving. She was my travel buddy, my playmate, my partner in crime, my love. God I was lucky. . Thank you my girl. Fly free.🐾 . Until we meet again💞 . NYC CARRIAGE HORSE RESCUE: Our cofounder @JayLWeiner just arrived at The Gentle Barn sanctuary with a horse who was used for carriage rides. Bernard is clearly sore, appears to be lame, and has a series of numbers burned into his hoof, evidencing his years of work pulling carriages through the hard concrete streets of New York City. Thankfully he was pulled from an auction house—where he otherwise would’ve been sent to slaughter due to lameness—by rescuers @CopperHorseCrusade. We were then connected to him by @NYClass, who stepped in to find him the perfect home.
It’s going to be an uphill battle to heal Bernard’s body and mind after everything he’s been through, but this is what we do best. With a limp and clear discomfort in his body, Bernard will need extensive veterinary and hoof care, along with therapies like acupuncture, massage therapy, and a fresh nutrient-rich diet, immune system-boosting supplements like @sunchlorellausa superfood, and more. He’s already seen the ferrier for his hooves, and has many additional treatments in the coming weeks, months, and years.
At The Gentle Barn, Bernard will get the love, attention, and care that he’s always deserved and two friends who know exactly what he’s been through. Former carriage horses Aslan and Moose, who were saved from the same auction house as Bernard, can tell him all about their beautiful lives in sanctuary. It’s thanks to your ongoing support that we’re able to rescue and rehabilitate horses like Bernard, Aslan, and Moose, and give them a restful, relaxing home full of love. We’ll keep you updated as Bernard adjusts to his brand new life!🩷🩷🩷

Fosters and/or adopters are desperately needed for these beautiful dogs. They were all with a rescue group who closed down and abandoned them. They are in the LA area. If you can help PLEASE call @rachelweilpr on 818-378-8995 THANKU! #dogsneedinghomes #rescuedogs #abandoneddogs #pleasehelp 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾💟
Apparently it’s international book day! Reading is one of the biggest joys of my life. You can switch the world off when you read, sink into stories whether real or imagined, it’s a form of meditation, of peace. Not staring at a screen. The smell of books makes me feel peaceful. I’ve only chosen 11 of my favorite reads here, but there could be hundreds! Have you guys read any of these? And what are your favorites? I’m always looking for new authors that have a lot of books, so would love recommendations! Enjoy! 1. PIN – #andrewniederman (one of my favorite horror writers) 2. Misery – #stephenking – another horror gem 3. Man’s Search for Meaning – #victorefrankl – many valuable life lessons from Frankl who was a prisoner in a concentration camp during the Second World War 4. The Glass Lake – #maevebinchy – one of my favorite writers 5. The Trespasser – #tanafrench – Irish crime writer 6. Polo – Jilly Cooper – always a fun read 7. The sense and Sensibility diaries by #emmathompson Emma writes daily dairies whilst shooting her film. They’re informative and very funny! 8. The witch of Portobello – #paulocoelho – always learn a lot from his books 9. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – #jkrowling 10. Escape from Camp 14 – Blaine Harden – one of the very few people that has ever escaped the camps in North Korea and loved to tell the tale 11. Rachel’s Holiday – #marionkeyes . #internationalbookday #readinglist
