New moon 🌙 new chapter. Since I was 17 and splashed on tabloids I knew I didn’t want to be famous; I wanted to be able to make mistakes. I was scared and uncomfortable and wanted to be allowed to become irrelevant so I’d have room to grow. I wanted to be the actor that people sort of know but they don’t know why or where from. Thousands of sets, hundreds of crews. Obviously masochistic; people don’t write many scripts about a nice day pottering in matching socks, acting is mostly hoping to be chosen to repeatedly experience generally the worst imaginable human scenarios, and not be allowed to say things unless someone else has written them..but its this stuff that takes all the humility and grit and kindness, the uncool stuff, that makes us all grow into different actors. But the intense joy of working with people that get that, that get me, feels wildly alive. Freedom af thought and freedom of expression is hard when we live in this atmosphere of punitive almost bullying self righteousness. Nobody has the guts to really say what they really mean anymore, in case they are judged. But unless we allow ourselves to ask about the things that are wrong, like what’s happening in Gaza and Lebanon, this cycle of shame over not being able to say the right thing will stop us from speaking. Women are being stopped from speaking in public right now as we breathe. And also, we must live. Live the biggest and fullest life and not be ashamed of our joy. Of our love of this planet and the creation and life all around.
Dublin, no filter. The best bit about being an actor is the difference every day brings, it’s always new; always shiny and terrifying and unpredictable and oh so beautiful. Always happy to be working 🙏🌊
