I have to admit, quarantining has not been as difficult as I expected. I have found a way to enjoy the quiet and solitude as I watch the snow fall on this beautiful city. That being said, looking through these photos we took with @avery.jpeg before I left has me missing home already. There is something comforting in that, that there is no place like home 🤍

How incredible to be a woman. Today and everyday I celebrate women and mothers. At the age of 14 my maman helped raise her 4 younger siblings while she studied. She was in the 1st group of woman ever to be airline technicians in the Iranian Air Force. She lived through a revolution and war. At 8 months pregnant my mom left the only home she’d known with the faith that this was how she could provide a better life for her daughter and herself and really little else. She studied English and worked multiple jobs to provide us with that life. She endured resistance and discrimination but she never faltered. She welcomed many into our home who needed safety, support, or just a temporary place to stay until they got on their feet. Above all else she fought for her freedom and independence and showed us that there is nothing more valuable than that. She managed to do all this with grace and with love and I’ve always been in awe of that. She is as fierce as she is soft and a reminder to me and those around her how much can be achieved with faith and an open heart. You do not need to lose what makes you soft to be strong. Happy International Women’s Day 🤍

When I was growing up we moved around a lot which often made it difficult to make and keep new friends. I made the library and bookstore my safe place where l’d spend hours looking through the aisles or sitting on the floor with a stack of books. This particular space is the world’s largest outdoor bookstore and was a treat to experience 📚🤍

Excited to finally share the trailer for Rule Breakers! 🎥 This powerful film tells the inspiring true story of Roya Mahboub and the Afghan Dreamers—a team of young women who broke barriers and pursued their dreams against incredible odds. Playing Roya was a deeply meaningful experience for me, and I can’t wait for you all to see this story come to life. As I reflect on the current challenges facing women and girls in Afghanistan today, and in so many other places, this story feels more urgent than ever. Rule Breakers is a testament to resilience, courage, and the unwavering spirit of women fighting for their future. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but this project is so close to my heart, and I hope it resonates with you as much as it did with me.
