Home sweet home ✨ No matter where I go, or how beautiful the journey, it always feels so good to land back home. Especially in the space I’ve been shaping slowly over the last few years. A space that’s finally starting to feel like mine. This one took time. Layering, refining, making mistakes, starting again. I mean, isn’t that everything? Shaping my environment has become one of my favorite creative processes. A way to make sense of things quietly, instinctively, through beauty and feeling. I really love this part, the sifting, the layering, the editing. The process of making things feel just right 🤍

There were years when I couldn’t find my way back to the part of me that creates. It felt like that doorway had disappeared. But creativity has its own intelligence, its own rhythm. Even in stillness, something is always growing beneath the surface. My latest letter is about that process — how we lose touch with our creative voice, and how it always finds us again. For the dreamers, the artists, the ones between chapters — a reminder that you’re always creating, even now. The Seasons of a Creative Life is live now on Substack. Live now on Substack 🌀 I’ve been sitting with how growth often feels like a spiral, coming back to familiar terrain, but seeing it from a new height. This summer stretched me in ways I’m still making sense of: caregiving, rites of passage, old patterns surfacing, creative sparks returning, and finding anchors along the way. That’s what I write about in the first edition of Unfoldings, a new monthly series within Between You & Me, my Substack journal. A place to share reflections and the companions (books, practices, rituals, music) that have been supporting me lately. There’s a playlist in this one too 🌿 Link in bio to read (and subscribe if you’d like to read the next one in your inbox).

A reflection for the Fall Equinox. On balance, change, and the turning point we’re crossing — between seasons, selves, and what wants to take root next. This new letter is a pause. A simple ritual. An invitation to slow down and realign with our values and how we want to show up in the world. If you’ve been craving rhythm, depth, or a reason to listen more closely… it’s waiting for you. 📣In the words of actress @saramalalrowe, who beautifully articulates the impact of ‘Rule Breakers:’ “One of the most important topics addressed in the film is breaking the stereotype of Afghan women being either quiet or victims—oppressed or silenced. But one of my favorite storylines is about amplifying voices—how the male characters also create space for the women in the film to speak up and be loud.” — @saramalalrowe ✏️ It was an honor to screen @rulebreakersfilm, the true story of Afghanistan’s first all-girls competitive robotics team, Afghan Dreamers. 🤖✨ Hosted by #BrownGirlMag’s @aqamar92, we had the privilege of hearing from two of the leads actresses of the film, @boosheri x @saramalalrowe, alongside one of the writers, @elahamah. Hearing them speak about the film from their POV from the casting to the acting to the simple act of laughing together on set was a moment worth witnessing.🤍 Founded by @roya.mahboob_official from Herat, Afghanistan, the Afghan Dreamers gained global recognition when they were initially denied U.S. visas to compete in their first robotics competition in Washington, D.C. After a firestorm of media advocacy, they were ultimately allowed to enter the U.S. — where they won an award. 🥇 But their challenges didn’t end there. Rule Breakers, produced by @angelstudios_inc, is now in theaters. Every ticket helps amplify this powerful message— so don’t miss out!🎥 🎟️ Get your tickets now — link in bio! ✔️ Powered by Chatterbox Consulting (@mshahab) Aam Creative (@aamcreative) 🥭🫶🏾 📸 @sabrinapalko x @conversationswithchai
Beyond grateful to have hosted an intimate screening of @rulebreakersfilm — currently in theaters — and breaking all the rules.✔️🤖 On a rainy ☔️ night in New York City, our friends and guests gathered at the @bg_clubhouse to break their fast with iftar from @miraj_grill, ready to watch a film that would give us all a reason to celebrate the true story of Afghanistan’s first competitive robotics team. Produced by @angelstudios_inc, ✨Rule Breakers✨is based on the story of the Afghan all-girls robotics team, who travelled the globe competing in international high school robotics competitions, ‘The Rulebreakers’ captures a teams journey as they overcome staggering obstacles and become a leading force in the country for STEM education for girls.🤖✔️🤖 Founded by the Roya Mahboob, from Herat, Afghanistan, the ✨Afghan Dreamers✨ became globally famous when they were denied a U.S. visa to attend their first competition in Washington D.C. After a firestorm of media advocacy, the team was ultimately allowed into the U.S. to compete where they won an award.🏆But their setbacks didn’t and challenges didn’t end there, Roya and her team then faced searing attacks back home from those who thought girls should be banned from learning computers, traveling, and competing.🇦🇫✏️ Support narratives that positively portray Middle Eastern women by purchasing tickets to watch the @rulebreakersfilm in the theaters – every ticket counts to amplify the message!🎟️ Link 🔗 in bio to purchase.💜 And stay tuned for more tidbits from the @rulebreakersfilm cast & crew via @browngirlmag. ✔️Powered by Chatterbox Consulting (@mshahab) Aam Creative (@aamcreative) 🥭🫶🏾 📸 @sabrinapalko x @conversationswithchai
