January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and today we discussed how to recognize, support, and advocate for loved ones living with this challenging condition. I experienced it firsthand with my mommy, noticing subtle signs like memory loss, changes in taste, and withdrawing from social activities. Advocating for her meant getting creative—I became Zumba certified, explored music therapy, and got her dancing to keep her mind and body active. We did crossword puzzles and shared stories on repeat, because keeping the brain engaged matters. Many of us have a connection to Alzheimer’s or dementia. Love is showing up, listening patiently, and embracing the moments, no matter how repetitive. This can cause feelings of despair, or feelings of failure, because you didn’t achieve “that goal”.
