Thanks to cutting-edge tech upgrades at the Gombe Stream Research Center’s laboratory in 2023, we’re tracking zoonotic diseases like never before! With new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, our scientists can now analyze DNA onsite to detect disease-causing agents with incredible precision. 🦠🔍
In 2023 alone, the team monitored occurrences of up to 12 pathogens linked to respiratory illnesses. This type of knowledge could help the scientific community, JGI, and @tzparks staff predict and manage potential outbreaks among humans and other animals. 😷🌿
By identifying and managing pathogens quickly as part of our Science and Knowledge Platform, we can better protect both humans and wildlife for a healthier shared ecosystem 🫶
