Like so many people around the world, I have been watching the destruction, disruption and even desolation caused by these fires. My heart has been pierced with distress – and I have felt helpless. There have been fires before, people including friends have lost their homes, their everything. But not on the scale of these fires. The impact of climate change on people’s lives can no longer be denied. I pray for all affected. 🤩🌿 Park rangers play a crucial role in conserving wildlife, including chimpanzees! In Tchimpounga Nature Reserve, home to JGI’s Tchimpounga Sanctuary in the Republic of the Congo, park rangers employed by the RoC government and trained by JGI regularly monitor the forests. Like many young people throughout history, they saw the complex issues facing their community and the world, and felt overwhelmed. She shared: “I work at a @traderjoes in Huntington Beach and all week I have been talking to customers who have been affected directly by the L.A. fires. Some customers lost their homes completely and are staying with relatives in our area. Some families have been evacuated and are staying with friends in our area too. So I decided to inspire hope with action.” With permission from her store captain, Daya set up a fire relief drive in the store. Within a day, the donation box was full; in just three days, thanks to contributions from coworkers, customers, and her son’s school, they were ready to deliver supplies to the Collidescope Foundation drive! 📦🥫 “I was absolutely inspired by Jane’s words ‘Inspire hope through action’. In and around Los Angeles, Roots & Shoots groups are stepping up to support those affected by the recent wildfires 🤝💚 When Roots & Shoots parent Daya saw one of @janegoodallinst ‘s collaborative posts about a local @collidescopefoundation donation drive, she knew she had to act! 🌟 We talked to Daya back in January, when the fires were still active throughout LA. She shared: “I work at a @traderjoes in Huntington Beach and all week I have been talking to customers who have been affected directly by the L.A. fires. Some customers lost their homes completely and are staying with relatives in our area. Some families have been evacuated and are staying with friends in our area too. So I decided to inspire hope with action.” With permission from her store captain, Daya set up a fire relief drive in the store. Within a day, the donation box was full; in just three days, thanks to contributions from coworkers, customers, and her son’s school, they were ready to deliver supplies to the Collidescope Foundation drive! 📦🥫 “I was absolutely inspired by Jane’s words ‘Inspire hope through action’.
