It’s strange to have to perform after such heartbreak. After 9/11 I was pretending to fall in love with a Batboy. During the pandemic I was pretending to be a ghost in Beetlejuice . And now after one of the largest natural disasters I am heading to perform in California. I kept thinking how can I help beyond raising money? And an opportunity fell into my lap (thank you @rosekemanuel ) We don’t think about all the theatre kids who in addition to losing homes, schools places they loved… also lost their theatres! I had this idea, and @segerstromarts was so generous and quick to help! The teachers while facing loss and devastation, have been channeling all their energy into making sure their shows goes on, and making something special for the kids. This is the one thing I know- theatre heals! Music heals us. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the fires. I met people who lost their homes, schools.. but they told me when they heard the theatre was gone- that was when they felt the deepest loss. If you have been a part of the theatre community, you know how healing it is. Let’s give them some hope and healing. I know so many people are in need, but every little bit helps.
