What Is A Weekend? Well the Dowager Countess Violet Crawley, it’s where I spent a rather lovely Saturday on a tour of your ‘home’ 🤣 A wonderful time at @highclere_castle which most of you will recognise as the much loved Downton Abbey. Felt very regal indeed. Fabulous tour with Allison, the expert castle guide followed by afternoon tea (divine & plentiful) in the grounds where we met Louis, the true Head Butler of Highclere Castle. Lastly on our tour, the castle shop which is definitely worth a visit 😉 They also sell incredible gin & bubbles… just saying Thanks to my lovely friend Linda who’s over from the US & idea is was for a damp February Saturday which turned into the most beautiful day in Hampshire. Smaller tours happen throughout the year as well as special events (we paid, well Linda did and it was marvellous). Thanks Linda. Learnt all about the history of the castle and it’s family Lord & Lady Carnarvon, the Egyptian collection which is also housed there plus (of course) what’s it’s like to be part of one of the most popular series & films ever. The tide is high… Outside our favourite pub called The White Swan in Twickers. Sometimes slightly wet when the Thames is on high tide but that’s never stopped play. Either bring your wellies and sit on the tables outside or stay inside the pub until the water stops lapping over the high steps So many memories of singing carols by the piano on Christmas Day to sunny evenings as the sun sets over the River & Eel Pie Island. Annual raft races (no I didn’t compete) a few pre rugby drinks for hubby & friends & the best food around. Honey mustard chipolas to die for… The pub was taken over my our friends Terry & Paul plus some other community spirited owners rescuing it as it went into trouble 15 years ago, then expertly run by Elaine & Kevin for the past 13 years with their team. Elaine & Kevin are leaving to have some new adventures and The White Swan of Twickers will have new landlords/ladies. The end of an era and hopefully for the community the start of a new one Thank you Elaine & Kevin. You are the best and will be sooo missed xxx @whiteswantwick
