@ayocaesar on being a communist and that age-old “but has communism ever worked” question. “Why is it that when we look at communism we define it by its failures and never look at its successes? And for capitalism, the opposite is true.”
It’s official… Minority Rule is a Sunday Times Bestseller, coming in at No. 4!!! I can’t lie, part of why this makes me happy is that there are some posh dickheads in the media who’ve spent the last few weeks telling me what a failure I am, how I can’t write, that this book will be a flop. To all the haters and the losers: eat my ass. More importantly than vengeance though, is the politics. There are loads of people out there who want the left to succeed, who are curious about Marxism, and have watched in horror as we’ve torn ourselves apart with the most individualistic form of identity politics possible. I’m so glad that this book is connecting with people who believe in the power of collective action. La lucha continua!

“Don’t embolden a genocidal war and normalise a relationship with an increasingly fascistic state and then come crying to the British media when this rogue government treats your representatives with the disdain they have for everybody.” @ayocaesar.
@ayocaesar speaking to @itvnews about the culture war: “Legacy media, social media and politicians are trying to keep us primed for outrage.” Her new book ‘Minority Rule: Adventures in the Culture War’, is out now. Read an extract on Novara Media (link in bio).
In an exclusive extract from her new book, Minority Rule, Ash Sarkar explains how Israel’s advocates weaponised the lived experience of Jewish people to obscure a genocidal war in Gaza.

Left-wing firebrand Ash Sarkar was interviewed for Prospect’s latest “Brief Encounter”. Prospect: What is the biggest problem of all? Ash: That we’re knowingly making the planet less hospitable for human life just so that shareholders get their dividends. It’s a cliché to say that the climate catastrophe changes everything, but it does—and yet we keep pretending that it’s not there. Prospect: If you could spend a day in one city or place at one moment in history, what would that be? Ash: In London, at the Olympic Stadium when then-chancellor George Osborne got booed. I was actually there at the time, I just want to boo him again. Prospect: What do you most regret? Ash: Skinny jeans. 🔗: To read more, click the link in our bio.
Why doesn’t the left have a Joe Rogan? Or does it have one already? In today’s episode of Media Confidential, Alan Rusbridger and Lionel Barber are joined by journalist and political commentator Ash Sarkar (@ayocaesar), whose debut book ‘Minority Rule: Adventures in the Culture War’, tackles how cultural skirmishes have been manufactured to stoke division and influence politics. Ash also reflects on the future of her employer @novaramedia, whether the UK is following a global shift toward right-wing politics, and the challenges of building sustainable left-wing media. Can there ever be a left-wing Joe Rogan? 🔗: To listen to the full episode on your favourite podcast app, or watch the interview on YouTube, click the link in our bio
Culture wars eclipsed economic struggle in public debate—and that damages the left.
