Trips to the Indian Ocean. I was born here, on these shores, across the pond from where my parents emigrated. Stops here are becoming the most spiritual of resting moments. I’m here now, and reminded of the most magical day I had a few months ago. I haven’t been posting much, the noise in the world isn’t something I feel compelled to add to. But my birthday this year, spent so simply with my mum and dad feels worth commemorating. They sat on top of the hill at Cottosloe Beach while I got salty and snotty between ocean dips… I was spoilt rotten in the most desi of ways. Mama spooning Kaddi Chawal into styrofoam cups (I think it’s going to take a generation to before the aunty community learns the environmental downside of convenience) and papa ever ready with a ‘flask’ of hot chai. This is the Australia I love. When its inner bloom peaks…a golden sun, pristine waters, and the subtle freedom to express who we are. . . . . . . . . #33

It takes a village to shoot a party. Big shout out to @dearindira for joining the @spit_movie team… incidentally also the only South Asian face I saw on tv as a kid in Australia (& quite possibly the reason for my journalism degree). We love you Indira! Thank you 💓 Shout out also to the magnificent @tessmakeuphair who is always up for the moment when I say, ‘what are we going to create this time!?’ Also big ups to @alisha_hennessy_ for the 😎

A night at the theatre! It was epic to watch #SpitMovie on Friday with old mates, new mates, and with Johnny Spit himself – the iconic David Wenham. It was my first time watching the film, written by @chrisnystauthor & directed by @jteplitzky, sequel to their cult Aussie classic Gettin’ Square. On set I would hear whispers in the make up truck about the hilarity of what had gone down the day before, and so I came to the cinema expecting to laugh. What I didn’t expect was the rip roaring cackle that surged through the audience every few minutes. Or to be brought to tears. What a yummy ride. To all my Aussie mates here… perhaps especially those who – like me – possess a heritage from ‘across the seas’ (ok that’s all of us post 1788-ers), I urge you to go to the theatre this weekend. To feel the hope and warmth for this land and its contemporary promise, to throw your head back and laugh! @spit_movie is only at the movies – March 6th! It’s gooodddd. Valentines morning spent basking in the infinite love & divinity around me – with one of the great edifices of love…. Even spotted my papa’s name. Romantic, platonic, of the divine …of the self…. Felt it all everywhere 🧡 #sacrecoeur #paris
No better place to for a lil stacay than Le Meridien in Melbourne. Bit of Europe, bit of Bhangra (yes I dance in my room BEFORE the party), exceptionally yummy food and some hang time with the gals on the side of the pool. Loved my mini hometown reset to kick off January and 2025! Thank you for the welcome home! @lemeridienhotels #ad @lemeridienmelbourne @marriotbonvoy #lemeridienhotels
Chrysalis to 🦋 …Turns out capes are worn to be flown. Privileged to be amongst the first to witness the great @yayoikusama_ at the @ngvmelbourne. I wore this Rani Pink sari as an ode to Yayoi’s feminine Asian power & bright palettes, its folds evoking a feeling of the infinite in me. The ancestral Navratnan (9 jewel) neck piece held strong as a symbol of heritage and ancestral inspiration. Yet all paled in comparison to Kusama’s whimsical imagination embodied so magically in those expansive walls. I remain in awe of this living legend. Yesterday was #WorldSareeDay and since I was a child, any formal event meant an occasion to wear the beautiful drapes and silhouettes of India. I learnt this from my mother and the proud aunties of my community. It felt incredible to honour that tradition and instinct at this year’s NGV gala. Thank you for hosting me @ngmelbourne @ampr_group @mercedesbenzau Thank you for the photos @lizsunshine @dancastano Sari: @ekayabanaras Sari draped by @glambyeash Thank you also @devs213 @kudrat_makkar
