Kat Von D Instagram – Obviously, this explanation is for those of you who’ve ever wondered why we wear In-Ear monitors on stage. The In-Ears @sammidoll and I wear have been custom made to fit into our ears – this is so all outside sounds get completely canceled and we have a better focus on the parts we play and sing.
For me, it helps me to stay in time and have better pitch. I also have different cues, key reminders, and countdowns programmed. This helps me always start each song in the right key, and gets me to enter stage at the right moment, and makes sure I don’t forget what song I’m singing next, since often times we change our set list.
I also have a specific mix that we prep during our rehearsals that plays in my ears that are completely different than @sammidoll’s. As you can tell in this video it’s kinda quiet, and stripped down. This mix I have found makes it the easiest for me to stay in tune and on time.
I also have @sammidoll ‘s vocals turned down, because my silly brain tends to latch on to her harmonies if I hear them. 😹
I thought it would be cool to share this with you, because it’s such a huge difference to what goes on in our ears compared to yours!
