Speed dated some ghosts last night. Happy Halloween, friends. 🦇 And remember— on the 5th of November, we gotta condemn the real monster and vote him into oblivion.
For those of you who have been requesting new music (thank you for your patience), expect news. x 🕊️🖤
From the newsletter: Hello there, friends! In case you missed my last letter, it discussed the inspiration behind Hades, my 7 months of solitude in the countryside during covid, and thus, my relationship with descent and eventual, long-awaited-upon ascent. Being alone, I had so much time to think and feel — arguably too much, but it was an exciting petri dish for songwriting and a necessary one, too. I began to cultivate a collection of songs (and continue to do so) revolving around themes of light and shadow and how one cannot exist without the other. I am delighted to announce I will be sharing a small selection of these songs, performed live at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, within the coming weeks. They’re drenched in longing, death, Spring, loneliness, first love, then heartbreak, and how there’s such aching sweetness and tender grief within all of it. I’m quite convinced we’ve all had a strange and challenging time over the last 5 years… can you believe it’s been 5 years since 2020? There’s nothing unique about this grief of mine. We’re all feeling it. I just think it’s important we don’t shy away from it, though it’s equally as important not to get lost in it either. That’s a challenge in and of its own. So many things are about to occur! As we enter a new year, there is an inherent sense of hope, but there is also a sense of dread and despair looming around the inevitability of inauguration day here in the States. These next few months are going to be the coldest and darkest of the year— they always are, but as of the Solstice, we will feel the days getting longer and brighter until Spring arrives. That’s why I wanted to share these songs with you in January of 2025. I’m hoping you will find companions in some of them, as they were and are to me. Happy New Year, everyone. — B

My favorite reads of 2024 in no particular order: — The Song of Achilles, Circe, and Galatea by @madeline.e.miller — James by Percival Everett — Just Kids by @thisispattismith — The Trees Grew Because I Bled There by @eric_larocca — Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen — Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë — Say Nothing by @praddenkeefe — The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire
A new song, Hades, played live at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts— and the full video is now yours to watch on YouTube. 🕊️ As a lover of myth, the Gods and Goddesses gallery has been a place of sanctuary for me. Thus, it was a surreal honor to play in and for a space so long admired and ancient. I thought a room of 2,000 year old statues would be a tough crowd, but really, it felt like playing for a group of old friends. Thank you to @mfaboston for an unforgettable and otherworldly experience. I will cherish it forever.
Hello, friends! Here’s a little snippet of “The Squire” — one of my favorites from the new EP, Live at MFA Boston. The video is out now and available to watch on YouTube. Thank you again to @mfaboston for letting us record in their beautiful space. 🖤
My EP Live at MFA Boston is now yours and available to stream on the platform of your choosing. It is comprised of three tunes, “The Squire,” “Hades,” and “One More Song,” plus a sort of preface titled “Epitaph.” This project is so near to my heart for all the reasons I’ve mentioned prior, and it wouldn’t have been made possible without the Boston Museum of Fine Arts graciously allowing me to record in their Gods and Goddesses gallery. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen! Many of you have been requesting new music for quite some time, so I thank you, too, for all your patience and support. I’m truly just so pleased to finally be sharing with you some of what has been on my mind over these last few years. Enjoy. 🖤 Artwork by @cerenoir
My EP, Live at MFA Boston, is out everywhere. Thank you all for receiving it so warmly! There is more to come. x
It’s the first day of spring! With this newfound sense of warmer days ahead, I found it the perfect time to deliver the final video installment of my Live at MFA Boston EP. “One More Song” has such a special place in my heart. To me, it represents rebirth, tranquility in forgiveness, and the knowing that every tide of life has its purpose, no matter how challenging— all things I find pertinent during this time of year! Thank you all for your support of this project thus far. Now, the last piece of this chapter is available to watch on YouTube, and the EP is out across all streaming platforms. x
Summer’s coming to a close, so I wanted to share a bit about how I spent a good chunk of it. I feel so grateful I got to explore Montreal and Québec City for the first time with the most incredible group of hardworking, new friends— locals and travelers alike. Together we laughed, cried, ate a copious amount of @mandysalads, became sleep deprived, fell in love with @dangitdrewdenny, and made the sweetest lil’ movie called Love & Chaos. It was an unforgettable adventure, and I can’t wait for all of you to see the result. More soon. x
