Something truly momentous happened for my family this weekend. The school where my dad won his state championships, and ultimately retired from, renamed their field the Bob Gaddis Stadium. The town held a glorious, heartfelt dedication under the Friday night lights. I often try to explain what it’s like to grow up in a football family, where each week is measured by a win or a loss, but words always fall short. What I do know is this: the real victory is never just the scoreboard. It’s the journey: the work, the dedication, and the person you become along the way. Those are the life lessons. The ones my dad taught. Every time I see my dad honored in such profound ways, I’m reminded of how deeply he instilled those values in thousands of people. His legacy isn’t just in championships, but in the lives shaped by his guidance, grit, and example. I’m also reminded of my mom, her love and sacrifice that made it all possible. That part always cracks my heart wide open. I’m so proud of my family and overjoyed for my dad. Though I couldn’t be there in person, my heart was right there at the 50-yard line. After an insanely successful festival run, it’s time to release this girl into the world. ALONE TOGETHER is the first short I ever wrote (and then acted in). Filmed entirely via Facetime, and entirely on location in the stunning mid-century architecturally significant town of Columbus, IN (directed by award-winning filmmaker, Meg Swertlow), Alone Together was shot by a group of artists yearning to make something special in the dead of winter in the smack dab middle of Covid. Our skeleton crew of FIVE misfit neighbor/friends (Elizabeth ‘Liz G’ Cleland, Ben Cleland Caron Sargent) set out to make something beautifully heartbreaking and tragically uplifting. Coming out of loneliness to be together. Alone Together soared emotionally higher once King Richard’s Oscar-nominated, Staci Pontius gave her keen, sharp eye to the film’s edit, and Latinx Grammy-winner Lucky Diaz, added the original score with Grammy-winner, Wesley Switzer supervising. Postproduction tightened and strengthened every moment of emotion that the crew had captured. Here it all is. Finally.
