It was exciting to join my friend @albomp and the Labor team for the @australianlabor campaign launch in Perth. Wishing them the very best of luck over the next three weeks. 📸 Alex Ellinghausen (SMH)
It was such a pleasure to help launch the new biography of my dear friend Dame Quentin Bryce. Authored by Juliet Rieden, ‘Quentin Bryce: The Authorised Biography’ charts the trailblazing career and life of Australia’s first female Governor-General. At an event in Melbourne, I joined Quentin, Juliet and Professor Marcia Langton for a panel discussion, during which we shared many memories and stories of how Quentin has positively impacted people and communities around Australia. I will always treasure the very poignant moment of having the nation’s first female Governor-General swear me in as Australia’s first female Prime Minister, and the genuine warmth Quentin brought to that day. 📸 James Henry

@Camfed’s @murimirwaangie is one of @time’s 100 most influential people! I’m thrilled about this well-deserved recognition of the leader of the most unique and impactful girls’ education movement in Africa! Angie is the CEO of CAMFED and the co-founder of the CAMFED Association of girls’ education leaders — 313,000 women of influence across rural Africa, who are acting now to secure every child’s right to quality education in communities where financial, structural and social barriers mean that only 5% of the most vulnerable girls ever complete secondary school. Angie, I know that your CAMFED Association sisters will be singing and dancing with their entire being today, to celebrate all you’ve achieved together and all you will continue to achieve. #TIME100
Every day, the girls and young women @CAMFED serves take the skills and expertise they learn in the classroom to support their communities, and each other, to THRIVE. This International Women’s Day (and every day), I’m proud to stand with a movement that is accelerating action across Africa. Are you ready to take action for women and girls? Visit @CAMFED to request your free IWD Action Pack and discover how you can support the women in your life—and sisters worldwide! #AccelerateAction #IWD2025 #SisterhoodAction

It’s always fantastic to return to the @uniofadelaide for my annual public lecture, and this year felt particularly poignant as the university prepares to merge with @universitysa and become Adelaide University in 2026. Thank you to Professor Tim Legrand, Professor Joanne Wallis and Professor Anton van den Hengel for joining me on stage for a panel discussion on the big challenges facing our nation and world right now. We explored issues like the rise of political polarisation, disinformation online, climate change and artificial intelligence. Thank you to all who attended and to the University of Adelaide for hosting another excellent event.

I’m so excited the first episode of A Podcast of One’s Own for 2025 is out today. It was wonderful to travel to my birth country of Wales ahead of International Women’s Day, to interview Eluned Morgan – the first woman to lead the country. We spoke about her political upbringing, her path to the leadership, building resilience, misogyny on social media, how her faith intersects with her politics and her life away from the public eye. I even tried my hand at a little Welsh! You can listen to the episode via the link in the bio or wherever you get your podcasts.
A new Book Club episode of A Podcast of One’s Own is now out! In this episode, @juliagillard and @kathy.lette explore Butter, the Number 1 Sunday Times bestseller by Japanese author Asako Yuzuki. Inspired by the real-life case of the “Konkatsu Killer”, the book follows journalist Rika Machida as she tries to get an exclusive interview with convicted serial murderer Manako Kajii. Kajii is serving time behind bars for the murders of lonely businessmen who she seduced with her delicious home cooking. The book tells the story of their intimate and disturbing relationship, as Rika recreates Kajii’s recipes and finds her fixation with the inmate beginning to cloud her judgment on the case and impact her closest relationships. Julia and Kathy explore the central themes of feminism, body image and obsession, and how food ties them all together. We’d love to hear your thoughts below👇🏻 Listen to the episode via the 🔗 in bio or wherever you get your podcasts 🎧
Another Welsh speaker ✅ Loved teaching @JuliaGillard some Cymraeg on her recent trip to Cardiff. Gwych – Da iawn 👏 #RandomActsofWelshness | #PethauBychain
“This is an urgent assessment of the impact of climate change on our health.” The good news is that credible and popular solutions exist. We now need to work together to make them a reality, from funders and businesses to multilateral collaboration. Putting health at the heart of climate action is critical to avoid both catastrophic climate breakdown and to create a future where all humans can flourish. With #COP30 in Brazil approaching – now is the time for action.
Dilyn yn ôl troed y mawrion 💪 #DiwrnodRhyngwladolMenywod Bu’r @PrifWeinidog yn sgwrsio â’r Gymraes sy’n gyn Brif Weinidog Awstralia, @JuliaGillard. Roedd y ddwy am gydnabod y menywod a aeth o’u blaenau, gan arwain y ffordd iddyn nhw ddod yn arweinwyr 👇
Have you listened to our first Book Club episode of the year yet? 📚 Both @juliagillard and @the_shb_ loved Wild Dark Shore, the new novel by Australian author @charlottemcconaghy. It follows the Salt family as they pack up the world’s largest seed bank on a tiny, remote island near Antarctica that’s being swallowed up by rising sea levels. The book explores a range of themes including parenthood – the different reasons people do or don’t want to have children, and the lengths they would go to to protect them. 🎙️Don’t miss this exclusive live recording of A Podcast of One’s Own! A special live event episode of A Podcast of One’s Own is out today! Recorded at the @hayfestival Winter Weekend, I sat down with international best-selling author Paula Hawkins to explore her new thriller The Blue Hour. Set on a Scottish tidal island connected to the mainland for just a few hours a day and home to only one inhabitant, the novel asks questions of ambition, power, art and perception. We also discuss her previous books, what’s in store next – and there’s some great questions from the audience too! Listen at the link in the bio or wherever you get your podcasts.
