Dear New York, Thank you for an unforgettable week. Thank you for the beautiful weather, the inspiring theater, the delicious food, the thought-provoking conversations, and the powerful spirit of democracy I witnessed on Oct 18. Your energy and resilience never cease to amaze. Until next time, NYC. 1. Opening Night of “Let’s Love” at the Atlantic Theater. So many beautiful performances and so many surprising and hilarious moments. 2. Proud to be a member of the Atlantic Theater Co. 3. “Dear New York” exhibit at Grand Central Station. Wonderful. 4. “ART.” A beautiful production. 5. So great to see these 3 incredible actors on stage together. We had the best time. 6. “The Other American,” written by and starring John Leguizamo. How is one man so friggin’ talented? 7. My friend Rob, John, and I were photobombed by Laurence Fishburne. 8. Oct 18 9. No Kings March 10. Friends 11. Ditto. 12. For Sylvia. 13. “Liberation”—so happy this play came to Broadway. Bring your daughters and your sons. Some gorgeous acting too. 14. Brought my bestie to see Pen Pals. Every two weeks, two new amazing actresses step into this show. Very impressive. 15. Opening Night of Ari’el Stachel’s show “OTHER” at the Greenwich House Theater. Don’t let his one-man show fool you. He embodies 40 characters during the night with incredible detail and grace. This is a must-see for any actor or person struggling with anxiety. It was so funny, yet moving and heartbreaking and victorious. 16. The after-party at The Spaniard. Thank you, Michelle, for letting us celebrate this beautiful show with you. 17. CHESS ♟️♟️♟️—we loved, loved, loved it. It is so exciting, inventive, gorgeous, and thrilling. The acting is out of this world—not just the leads, but everyone. I will write a separate post about it because it deserves more love than this caption will allow. 18. Shiny, happy people. 19. More delighted theatergoers. 20. My dear old friend Michael Mayer. I’m so proud of you for this gorgeous production of CHESS. It’s truly masterful. Long may it run. Although I have no idea how the company is going to do that show eight times a week. ❤️🍎

I was invited to another “Dinner With Strangers” this week, which is basically a way to meet people too proud for speed dating and too hungry to do an escape room. The concept: the host invites several wildly interesting humans and asks us to submit 5 facts about ourselves like, “I traveled with the circus for 2 years,” or “I played the triangle in a symphony concert,” or “I do a surprisingly accurate impression of a fax machine.” Over guacamole and chips, the host reads the anonymous tidbits, and we try to guess who confessed to what. It’s like the game of Clue, but for childhood trauma and questionable life choices. The whole thing feels like an FBI profiling seminar. I’m analyzing who looks limber enough to be a contortionist or who’s old enough to know what a fax machine sounds like. After a few margaritas, everyone’s swapping stories, and the trivia paints a bigger picture. By dessert, I was outed as a rebel and accidentally pitched three Pilot ideas for future dinners. Points go for correct guesses, sneakiness, and trivia so random not even your own mother would suspect you. As a fan of unnecessary structure, I was in spreadsheet heaven. But beyond the rules, people are endlessly fascinating when you give them two hours, decent food, and a mild threat of public humiliation. I walked in knowing one person, and walked out knowing seven delightful, talented everyday superheroes. My mantra: say “YES” to things that terrify you (except skydiving and most open mic nights). When you say, “NO” nothing new happens in your life. When you say “YES,” any number of magical things could happen. Huge thanks to Tony Sepulveda for hosting and to everyone who brought their A-game, quirks, and confessional chaos. And an anemic congratulations to Grant Show for knocking me out of first place on the last question. 🥇 @tonysepulveda @frankiepines @grant_show @maggiesajak @kate_mulligan_ @gillesmarini @davidjzuckerman #DinnerWithStrangers
