Christina Pascucci Instagram – California is about to get even more unaffordable.
Two oil refineries— near the port of LA and in northern CA — are the latest in a growing number to announce they’ll leave the state. They represent nearly 20% of the our supply, which means we will now need to import that oil using long-hail oil tankers that burn high sulfur bunker fuel, are not subject to the same regulations, and increase the chance of spills. It is more harmful to the environment and more costly for you, the consumer.
A new USC study found gas prices are the highest in the country here mainly because it costs oil companies 35% more to operate in CA, which is partly why many have left.
I’m extremely passionate about protecting our environment, and you have to be smart about it.
Sometimes well-intended politicians undermine the effort to protect the environment through failure to look at the big picture, and policies that do not meet the moment (ie announce all cars must be electric by 2035 and a month later the electrical grid fails cause we have not properly built up the infrastructure yet). We need to meet the current demand and simultaneously spawn innovation.
Part of doing the work is making sure those who care for Mother Earth don’t unintentionally undermine their own movement. 🌏 🌱 | Posted on 24/Apr/2025 02:34:04
