Thousands of women will run the #BostonMarathon on April 21—but they weren’t always welcome. In 1967, @kathrineswitzer became the first woman to run as an official participant. Registered as “K.V. Switzer,” she faced physical attacks mid-race when officials realized she was a woman—but she kept going and finished in 4:20. “I knew if I quit, nobody would ever believe that women had the capability to run 26-plus miles.” – Kathrine Switzer It took five more years for women to be officially allowed. Our research revealed that in shows watched by kids and teens, less than 2% of characters had a narrative that focused on a mental health issue.
