To help me hold up a mirror to prejudice. The song intentionally uses harsh language—sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, bullying—because I wanted listeners to hear the kinds of things people actually say to each other, and to confront how fear and judgment get projected onto others. At the heart of the song is a question I was wrestling with: Why do we sometimes hate people who reflect parts of ourselves? Why do we reject in others the very pieces of ourselves we haven’t learned to accept or understand yet. I’m curious- what did you think when you first heard this song?
Had so much fun singing at the @macys Thanksgiving Day Parade 💛 I waved my a*s off! Haha It was really fun to see everyone along the streets lined up and shouting “Happy Thanksgiving” it was so sweet! Hope you all had a wonderful time with people who love you- because you deserve it!
