– I’ve been on three 8000m -expeditions in Pakistan, one of them a winter expedition in 2019. Didn’t summit any but instead took part in many rescues. – I don’t use supplemental oxygen and I climb self-reliantly alone or in small teams. I like the idea of climbing the mountain on its terms, not conquering it. This is one of the reasons I’m taking a break from 8000m normal routes. – I love speed climbing (big) mountains and technically could apply for quite a few FKTs but I seem to be too lazy to apply. – I love climbing solo. Just me and the mountain, dancing or wrestling. – I do this for a living and train full time. Couldn’t be more grateful even though this life is not always easy.

First of all, no. I’m not climbing Mount Whitney right now, I’m breastfeeding. Anyway, at the time of filming this video I was contemplating the concept of self-care that was really trending at the time and I couldn’t really relate to the spa-moments and whole food fads (mountaineer’s meals are mostly processed foods, cheese and candy). BUT when we came down from Mount Whitney I watched this and wasn’t impressed and blamed it on my high altitude brain. Now I found this video again while postpartum and sleep deprived and I’m thinking I sound pretty smart and I need to implement my own advice now. But overall the logical conclusion is that once again, there’s something very similar with climbing in high altitude and having a baby: both include compromised thinking and quite frankly some hallucinations have entered the chat at times. I don’t know, thought I’d share. How do you define self-care? And if you listened to this story, just FYI, it was off-season and we had permits.🫰🏻
