You never know what’s gonna impact your life 10 years later. Read It and Weep still remains one of my favorite jobs. It was my second time working in Utah in 6 months with the same crew, so it felt like going home. I got to work with my sister, my mom was with me and my dad was there as often as he could be. So it really was like home. It still brings a smile to my face when people talk about watching the movie, so in honor of 10 years since Read It and Weep first premiered, here are a couple behind the scenes photos. Thanks for 10 years everyone.
No #accidentalselfie here – some days, you just gotta love yourself. Came out to enjoy one of the last nights of Disney World’s Electrical Parade with some fun coworkers.
And some days, you can’t help but be whisked away by the magic
All these pictures were taken within 3 minutes of each other. Each area of the sky was an entirely different color. Sometimes it helps to stop and enjoy these little moments in life. #nofilter
So I was gonna post a picture of all 3 of us but this picture makes me too happy. Thanks for letting me crash your mother-daughter date!!!
It’s National Cat Day!!!! This little munchkin has been with me for almost a year and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. She snuggles, plays fetch, and makes sure every piece of paper she comes across is destroyed. Happy Cat Day, Harley.
Went whale watching. Saw some freaking orcas in the wild. It was incredible. It was also incredible to spend the day on the water with this lady. #thebackofyourheadisridiculous
What do zookeepers do on their day off? Go visit other zoos of course! Had the loveliest time visiting @brevardzoo today! Loved getting up close and personal with the giraffe 🙂
Thanks, but no thank you.
Sorry in advance for the longness of this post, but this has been a few years in the making. I woke up this morning feeling pretty sad for myself. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, but it changes when you’re an adult. Traditions take on a sad tone when it’s not exactly the way it was in your childhood. And today I knew I going to be working and looking at all the family bonding occurring and constantly be reminded that my family wouldn’t be waiting for me at home. It always stings a little extra, too, when you’re not sure which of your family you will hear from that day. After this pout session, I thought about the last month I spent with my parents, all the laughs we had and the food we ate. And the fact that we had our own Christmas on our own day, which made it even more special. And then I thought about the fact that I even got to see my parents for the holiday season, when so many people aren’t fortunate enough to. And that we all have our health, and roofs over our heads and a warm bed to sleep in. And then I really looked at the big picture. I get to go to a job I absolutely love. Even when my face is bright red and sweat is dripping everywhere, I can’t help but smile at how fortunate I am to be so happy at work. I’ve already lived a life full of adventure and change and a lot of love and happiness. I’ve gotten very bad about keeping in contact with those people that have affected my life so positively, but I hope they know who they are. And I hope they, and you, and everyone else in the world, can find their happy place. Because I have found mine. It’s getting to do an agility course with my goat at work, and making a poop snowman for our pig, and laughing so hard I cry, and telling stupid jokes and reminding people that life is so short and so precious. Enjoy every little moment. So Merry Christmas everyone. From me, Leia the goat, and Poop the snowman 🙂
Best friends show up at your door with a life size Stormtrooper, ice cream, champagne and your favorite #pubsub to cheer you up.
The best way to blow off steam after work? Drag queen bingo. Even better?? When your straight (and only) male coworker present wins the first round.
I made lots of friends today. This was Mr. Hermit Crab. I saw a wild agouti on the way to breakfast and when we went into the ocean, I saw a cute little stingray and not one but TWO sea turtles, just grazing in the grasses. Cheers to making new friends on vacation!!
Coming to see me at work can be tricky, BUT!!!! Come see me this Thursday!!! I’ll be hosting 1 night of trivia! Free to play, starts at 8, and you can win a bottle of wine or a gift card 😄 one of the only times I will tell you ahead of time where to find me 😉 come hang out!!! Caprino’s on Winter Garden Vineland (address tagged)
How did I celebrate the first day of fall, you ask? I went to the beach and made more friends! Look at the tiny baby octopus!!! I also saw 4 manatees, a dolphin, dozens of mollusks and a couple hermit crabs. So maybe Florida does have some perks 😉
If you ever find yourself in prison, you know who to call. We just broke ourselves out!
Update: when the week gets weirder, your new friends get friends. I now have the complete set. My friends are also better than your friends.
This week has been full of adulting lessons, but today’s was fun. Friend asked me to help her make cookies using a “flooding” technique. Sounded crazy so I said yes. It is not my strength. You have to figure out your own way of doing it and I could never get it right. But!!! I learned the fun in just winging it. We didn’t really have a recipe for the icing and not the exact right tools, but we made it work and had a good time trying 🙂 so the adulting lesson today was: throw yourself out there. Even if it is an epic failure, you’ll have fun trying 😉
What started as another escape room adventure turned into free drinks/shots at a Mexican restaurant and all of us dancing on our chairs. I really do work with the best team on animal planet.
I never knew #PhilRoyal never even met him. But my friend did and her whole family worked with him and supported him. He passed away suddenly at the age of 47 and it sent ripples throughout their community. It affected my friend’s youngest son particularly. So he and his mom made a list of #47RoyalDeeds to thank and support their community. From leaving a dollar at vending machines to taking cookies to local police and fire departments, this 11 year old has found inspiration and motivation from this major event in his life. He may not understand it today, but getting to be a part of his good deeds today was what my soul needed. The world has become a dark place right now and to see a maturing young man do what he can to bring light to his part of the world is incredible. So when I go home this week, I’m going to carry on his #47RoyalDeeds even if it’s as simple as leaving a dollar at a vending machine or thanking a veteran for their service. You never know with what someone else may be struggling.
Different levels of “how to girl” – I’m at the “will be carded until I’m 45” level
Today will go down in history as the day I battled death and won!! ….. Ok, not really, but getting stung by this guy was not fun! 2 hours at health services only to be told to go home early and take Benadryl. HA! How would you like to be known as the girl who went home early because of a caterpillar sting?? Not this girl!! Yes I am stubborn to a fault. But Mr. Caterpillar did not get to count me among his victims.
No idea how to really use this thing, but I’m gonna pretend this officially makes me a zookeeper.
