Can’t get my head around this, I’m thinking of Helen McCrory’s family and sending them love. Such a beautiful, regal woman. I only met her a handful of times on the Potter sets and the occasional press junket but she was such a huge presence in every room – so vivacious, kind, warm and fun. If you weren’t secretly obsessed with her you just weren’t paying attention. I remember googling her all evening after one particular junket to try and learn all about where she’d trained and studied because I wanted to learn how to radiate strength like that. But I don’t think her presence was something you could imitate, she was just a force. My dad also reminded me how she spent ages talking to him about Irish history on one of the press days, how curious and engaged she was to talk about whatever it was that lit a person up. I feel so lucky to have got to spend some time in her presence, to see how she held herself and how she worked. That moment in Deathly Hallows where Narcissa has the pivotal task of checking on Harry, where the future of the magical world hinges on a mother’s love, always makes me tear up – she did it so beautifully. Rest in peace ❤️ photo via @itg_ltd

“…I carry proudly my ineffable happiness. The centuries will roll by, and schoolboys will yawn over the history of our upheavals; everything will pass, but my happiness, dear, my happiness will remain, in the moist reflection of a street lamp, in the cautious bend of stone steps that descend into the canal’s black waters, in the smiles of a dancing couple, in everything with which God so generously surrounds human loneliness.” – Vladimir Nabokov, from ‘a letter that never reached Russia’, January 1925 💙

Big announcement to share… My first book will be published in September by @headlinebooks ! It is…terrifying to write that! 📖🙀 I’ve been meaning to write this book for years. I knew it would take patience and conviction and many difficult conversations, and this past year has really allowed me the silence and stillness to unravel the story I want to tell. How do I summarise it without writing half a novel here? Hmm. 🤔 In one way, this book is a memoir about my struggle with an eating disorder. However, it’s not really a book about thinness and eating, it’s about rebuilding yourself after, literally recovering yourself. At its essence it’s about the ongoing negotiation between the voices of our fears and our creativity, and all the crazy, interesting, wild things that happen when you keep committing to your dreams. ✨ That’s all I’ll say here. The rest is for the book. I’m really grateful to my team who have empowered me to share my light and darkness alike in this story, and I can’t wait to share it with the world. The book is available for pre-order at the link in my bio. For anyone in the UK, the first 1,000 copies ordered from @waterstones will be signed by me ✍🏻 Also, this is not the official book cover! The cover and title are still in development and I will be sure to share them in the next couple months, so watch this space! 🦋📖💙 Ladybird & butterfly illustrations by my friend @louiseandrolia #bookannouncement #newbook #writing #comingsoon

Little Irish history tour with my Dad for @tourismireland 🌳🪨 My dad was a history teacher for over 30 years (I’m sure these pics will give his past pupils flashbacks…) so I thought it would be interesting to ask him what lesser known location he’d like to share with anyone interested in local Irish history. And his eyes lit up and he insisted we go visit the monastery in Monasterboice and this old cross! Which is actually very impressive when you realise how bloody ancient it is. Here are some facts from my dad: 🌳The cross in the pictures is St Muireadach’s Cross and is one of the finest surviving examples of early medieval Irish sculpture. 🪨 It’s situated amid the ruins of the ancient Irish monastery of Monasterboice in Co.Louth. 🌲Muireadach’s Cross is from the 10th century and is thought to have been called after Muireadach Mac Domhnall, one of the monastery’s most famous abbots who died in 923AD. 🗿The carvings on the cross depict scenes from the bible and may have been used by the monks to tell the story of creation and salvation to visitors to the monastery. ☘️Ancient Irish monasteries we’re often circular and had two distinctive features: a round tower and one or more high crosses, both of which you can see in these pics. Check out my stories to see my dad explaining some of the scenes on the cross. His passion is very infectious ☺️ Thanks @tourismireland for encouraging me to rediscover some of the history of Co.Louth, we do have some cool things going on in the wee county. #WelcomingSoon #Ad #Ireland #TourismIreland

Happy Christmas, lovely people!!! 💚❤️🎄 Sending love and magic to you all 💫 Here’s a pic of the jumper I made my brother for Christmas!! It is his cat, Schmee, tangled up in Christmas lights! It was sad to not be able to give my family their pressies in person but I have really felt the love from my friends and family this week in light of not being able to travel, so I am counting my blessings. There is so much to be grateful for in every moment. P.S. My Etsy store will be opening NEVER, this cat jumper took my fecking 5 days and 2 seasons of Gilmore girls!! It was fun but only for blood relatives I think. And I didn’t even make the jumper, just the cat! Hats off to the professional crafters of the world, we don’t pay you enough. P.P.S. The cat is made from an old T-shirt and bamboo felt 💚🌱
We freaked out lots of dogs at the park today 😼 I’m trying to take Puff on more adventures lately 🌿🧚🌳🍀 Ever since lockdown eased here in London I’ve been running around town seeing friends and attending classes and I noticed the other day how lethargic poor sweet Puff has gotten. It’s the saddest thing that just because animals don’t speak our language we find it easy to tune out how they feel. I realised in my haste to get out there and see the world I’d been neglecting being present with my most constant and cherished companion, Ms Puff!! 😿 Anyway, she’s in a much perkier mood the past few days since I’ve made an effort to bring her to the park where she can chase bees and sniff flowers. Just a little reminder that animals are here with us, not for us, and they have unique needs for stimulation and attention too. I often forget myself. So anyway if any of my friends are up for play dates with Puff that’s where you’ll find me this summer 😸 #Puff #LilPuff #catsofinstagram

I’m very happy to share that I’ll be doing a book launch event on October 14th with @faneproductions!* Come celebrate launching my book out into the world in Shoreditch Town Hall in London on my book’s birthday 🥳 Everyone who attends will receive a copy of the book and I will be doing a signing afterwards for all attendees. I would lovvvve to see you there! Ticket link in bio. General sale opens at 10am July 30th (tomorrow morning). The event will also be live streamed for any international readers who’s like to tune into the discussion. *That is if I haven’t changed my name and moved to the tropics by then…seriously contemplating that strategy after the legal edits of my book. 🙃 If I have the nerve to stick around for publication day, I’ll see you October 14th in Shoreditch! 🤞🏻😘 Photo by the insanely cool dude @pal_hansen 🙏🏻 #ButterflyHunting #newbook #writersofinstagram #memoir #EvannaLynch
‘Why go to all the trouble of being born if not to experience pleasure?’ – Amelie Nothomb After a solid couple weeks of daily meltdowns (not even exaggerating 🙃) while editing my book I decided to go for a long walk this afternoon and buy myself flowers!! 💐 I had thought the bulk of the work was done when I submitted the first draft but no sweet child, there are about a dozen round of edits and the feedback all comes to you via silently devastating emails and you end up sitting in a room having endless imaginary conversations in your own head defending the emotional significance of a comma. I thought I might actually lose my mind the other day when my laptop froze and shut down, casually erasing an entire day’s worth of edits (I’m sorry to my neighbours for the murderous screams). Then today I took a break and got some flowers and I feel soooo much better and ready to get on with work and I remembered how much I need moments of beauty in my day to function and be creative. So if anyone else out there is having a crazy moment trying to smother the creative spark from your exhausted little bod, remember that you’re a complex human being, not a machine and you deserve flowers 💕🌸🌻🌺
I’m delighted to reveal the cover for my new book, ‘THE OPPOSITE OF BUTTERFLY HUNTING’, here for the first time!! See link in bio for more details. Out in October. 🍁 Hugest thanks to the artist @lucyrosec for taking on this project and lending her stunning talents to illustrate the cover of my book. I was soooo happy when she agreed to do it and it is even more magical, dark and enchanting than I could have dreamed. Huge thanks also to @siobhanbookdesign for designing the cover, and to everyone at @headlinebooks for putting so much time and care into every detail. 🌲🦋🐇🦜🌕🌿🌲 It is WILDLY surreal to see my book has a cover now. This time last year I had just signed the book deal with Headline and had only one chapter written, along with a haphazard pile of notes. I honestly wasn’t sure I’d manage to finish the book at all, ever, let alone to a deadline 😅 but here it is now with its fancy coat on after a year of chipping away at it, and thanks to a special circle of people who believed in its ability to be a book! 💗 #TheOppositeofButterflyHunting

Happy Lughnasadh, happy August 🔥 My favourite time of year, this moment of basking in the summer sun’s blessings that is tinged with the sorrow that all of it is on the cusp of death!! ❤️🔥🥀 Yes August has my heart. Day1. I’m going to try post something every day this month. I’ve gone way too introspective lately and it’s affecting my ability to connect with the world. I’m trying to psyche myself up to write and create again but am afraid afraid afraid of what will come out next and the repercussions. I can’t even write some shite on Instagram without this dreadful anxiety walloping me back into silence. So I am writing shite on Instagram to try bring some creative abandon back into my daily life!! Probably none of it will be funny or profound or for a cause other than self expression, but that’s all I can think about right now, to just say anything at all so I don’t continue saying nothing. Ps. I’m sorry I have been ignoring so many DMs and emails and letters lately. I am struggling with all the messages at the moment. I sat down to answer one very lovely letter a couple days ago and wrote for 5 hours before realising that most of it was nonsensical ravings and I’m not in the right headspace for this! When people pour out their heart to me I find it hard not to pour twice as much back. 💞 I will get to them eventually but for now I need to do some inner healing and fuck these fucking perfectionist impulses the fuck away. Blessings! 🌟
