Show me love like they do it in the pictures! 💃🏽
Words can’t describe the love in which the Wedding Season family basked on Friday night… yes it was a beautiful venue (thanks @netflix), yes Suraj allowed me to stop and dance in the streets of Malibu to calm my nerves on the way, yes my friends chanted Aussie Aussie Aussie, yes the cast & crew (that could be there) relived the love we kicked off while making the film…
Still feeling the joy, the gratitude and the immense blessings 🙌🏽🙏🏽
So here’s a little glimpse of our family on a magical night in Los Angeles… and thank you all for joining it from your homes with every view! 💕📸🍿
And to those who couldn’t be there in person – you were definitely there in spirit! 🧡

“I love bringing light and shade into the narrative of what it is to be a South Asian woman…the Western gaze (often) operates to create a monolith out of that identity…
Aspirational thinking shouldn’t be
limited to othered communities only
in their schooling years; they should
be able to go through life feeling like
they’re not taking up too much
space.”
Thank you @ifmagazine for the chat and so accurately relaying my thoughts! ✨

‘I was inspired to be an actress through watching Hindi films’. It is what I often say to cut through the dialogue around the impact of representation. But that’s not necessarily the whole story.
Olivia Newton-John was one of my idols. Perhaps more aptly, Sandy from Grease was. A woman who could move, swoon and sing in equal measures… a woman who was also – behind the mask – an Australian. I watched reruns of Grease innumerable times from my childhood living room. It – like musical Hindi films – cemented my love of character embodiment through movement, although I didn’t quite understand that yet. I remember our year 12 ‘muck up day’ (an atrocious but very fun Aussie end of school ritual) had a retro theme. I turned up in leather pants and curly hair – ‘I’m Brown Sandy’, I shrugged matter of factly. She was one of the few cult figures of my western heritage that I felt so connected to.
Rest in power stalwart. We are hopelessly devoted to you 💕🙏🏽

Well that was a fun night! ❤️

It’s out! I had the pleasure of bringing my voice to @samishahdotcom’s writing in @audible_au’s podcast #TheMissed. An investigative crime drama, portraying the story of a Pakistani family’s anguish in Western Australia, following the mysterious disappearance of a child. It was a challenge I loved bringing to life with Sami and the team at @envelope.audio.
We recorded my pieces on my days off from #TheTwelve, with me in Sydney, Sami in Melbourne and a studio in Perth. Such a beautiful interconnected storytelling experience – have a listen! 🧡🎧
