These #MitchellTrousers by @closetcorepatterns are such a welcome addition to my pattern stash- I have a lot of great slim fit trousers in my arsenal but way less chic wide legged patterns to play around with and I absolutely love this cool, funky silhouette! I’m feeling a little Annie Hall pairing these pants with this hat (RTW from a leather and hat store in Santa Fe); if I just had a little vest to throw over this true bias turtleneck I would be set! The @wearethefabricstore fabric is 🥹🥹🥹 exceptional. It’s a heavyweight viscose twill in pumpkin and I’ve never sewn with anything quite like it. It somehow manages to be thick and squishy while also feeling floaty and hanging fluidly. You ever go to a really high end store or like, a Bloomingdale’s, and thumb through the really expensive garments and wonder “what the hell kind of fabric is this??” because it’s THAT luxurious? This is the fabric they are using lol. I would get it in every color if they had more! One important thing to know is that this fabric must be handled with care- despite its heaviness, it’s surprisingly delicate and it does not like lots of pin holes or the fabric will snag. It requires extra attention but these pants were worth every ounce of care I put into them. As always, the pattern is thoughtful with interesting details (the adjustable side ties!!!) and I can’t wait to make a lighter weigh pair for warmer months! Oh, and outfit also features my new fanny pack from @imadethatbag – I am over the moon in love with it and have used it every single day since I bought it. This Halloween costume is not a me made but rather an us-made collaboration between myself, my young friend @quinnofeaglerock and their amazing mom, @cyndiotteson . We have been neighbors for years but it was only in late summer that we started meeting up once a week for sewing lessons in my craft room so I could teach them how to sew their own scrunchies for their ice-dyed scrunchie business, and wow, both Quinn and Cyndi have been such amazing students! Their vision (which they illustrated for us!) was an Icecream demon of the mint chocolate chip variety, complete with devilish tail! I am endlessly grateful to Cyndi and Quinn for trusting me and letting me be a part of this process. I also gotta say that Cyndi and I are kind of a dream team together 💪🏼 Quinn very thoughtfully gifted me a special treat on Halloween as a thank you for helping with their costume, and I had never seen anything like it before. It’s a miniature bedroom in a box by @rolife_official that you build yourself (pretty much everything you need to make it included). I ended up putting it together in three days and it was absolutely *delightful*! I of course then went down a rabbit hole to see all the other products they sell and HOLY MOLY there are some really incredible themed miniatures that are absolutely going on my christmas list. Although I have always appreciated dollhouses, I wasn’t ever bit by the bug to build them myself, but now that I have made this one I can understand the appeal. I love the idea of smaller contained rooms/studios with everything you need right there (I’m not currently in the frame of mind to go ovaries-deep into purchasing stuff for a new hobby) and it was so nice to craft something that had such low stakes, divorced from my usual past times- it didn’t have to fit, didn’t have be the right color, didn’t have to be a certain style or “look good” or be functional- it could just be cute and fun and enjoyable. Which is also how I would describe Quinn, ha! We will be sharing a booth at the dec holiday market by @tablelosangeles so stop by and see us ❤️❤️❤️

My vision for this make was to approximate one of those selkie dresses that I saw everywhere this summer- dramatic poofy sleeves with super flared-out short skirt in a cool print. I used McCalls 8108 to get me there (which I’ve made before) but I didn’t realize til it was too late that I needed some serious project amending to accomplish it. Sleeves not big enough, skirt not poofy enough even with added width. The dress is still cute of course, a classic silhouette in that “girl in a pretty nightgown” sort of way 😅, it’s just not what I wanted. The saving grace for this one is the cool moon-print on this floaty, semi-transparent midnight blue crepe de chine from @wearethefabricstore (gifted to me as a brand ambassador!) . Square necks are generally not my fav and the one on this pattern is pretty frustrating- the neck is so open that the sleeves simply will not stay up! I took a note from @closetcore ‘s Pauline dress and added ties to the back opening to keep the sleeves in place and it’s working great, but still a big oversight on the drafting of this pattern. Despite all that, I feel like I will enjoy this more if I layer it for cooler weather and pair it with some Docs and bright tights or something. I’m not usually a tights kind of woman but hey, I used to hate animal print too, so who knows what the future holds?! 😂 #ad (my ad button is gone from IG for some reason 😵💫)

The Alphonse Trousers (unfortunately not inclusive sizing, like so many European brands) by @republiqueduchiffon might be my favorite pants pattern I’ve ever made because they didn’t require any fitting adjustments, a rarity for me. They fit snugly at my waist while accommodating my hips and thighs beautifully. I have had moderate success with their other patterns but this one is an absolute winner. I lengthened the legs a few inches (the original design is a cropped leg which I also love), and changed the pockets from *edited for clarity* basic side seam pocket to slash pocket, also known as a curved pocket (I have a hate-hate relationship with basic side seam pockets). As per usual, it’s the fabric choice that really sets this garment apart from all others. Initially I chose this striped cotton from @wearethefabricstore to make a pair of jeans, but the fabric ended up being so soft and supple that I changed direction and went with a slightly looser pants silhouette. While a perfect bottom weight fabric, it’s not stiff enough to make a close fitting jean with my booty and thigh percentage (they would likely bag out), but wow it works SO nicely in this pattern, and when I tell you I have been LIVING in these pants! They easily dress up and down, they are wicked comfortable, and the railroad stripes give so much visual interest for endless outfit combinations. I’m pairing it with a memade belt and one of my favorite things in Savage’s closet, a cute vintage sweater that looks so good with these pants, but within moments of putting it on my skin started losing it’s mind and I realized it’s made of real wool 😭 so i don’t know how long I’ll last wearing it. If anyone knows of a knitting pattern super close to this motif, please send it my way 🙏🏽 shoes are @jeffreycampbell clogs which I never figured out how to style when I purchased so I tried to sell them on Poshmark for three years to no avail, but it turns out I just needed a little time to grow into the style because now I wear them with everything 😂

Despite being pretty meh about this pattern (McCalls 7974), I am beyond happy with how this dress turned out. I didn’t size down (because the armholes always tend to be way too tight when I do that) but I took out some length and some width in the bodice, which raised the waistline of the skirt and kept the back bodice from scooping down too low. The fit now is mostly okay, but its still looser in the bust area than I would like (I added back ties to cinch it in more), and although the neckline lays down fine, any movement at all allows glimpses of my bra underneath, which isn’t that big of a deal in the long run, but still, not ideal- if you’re busty, I feel like this bodice will work a lot better on you! This periwinkle cotton doodle print from @wearethefabricstore is the real winner, though. It’s floaty, it’s funky and the random embroidered words and images make me think of little stick n poke tattoos- so cute! Of course I ran out of fabric and had to amend the sleeve length from long to short, but honestly it worked out so much better- I would have felt out of sorts in long sleeves and a bodice that felt floppy- like all the wrong things were covered up. I’ve been really into lighter hued blues oranges lately so when I started planning this dress I immediately knew I wanted to wear it with some bold colored footwear- these boots from @silentd_shoes totally fit the bill (boot mention isn’t an ad, just giving a shout out to a fun brand I like!) This dress isn’t actually spooky but I feel like the embroidery and the orange boots make it feel halloween-y…or at least thats what I am telling myself cause I don’t have a costume! Have fun tonight, all! p.s. I don’t hate my hair like this (yay!) but I am getting it cut again tomorrow to give it more of a definite shape. Don’t worry, Im going to a trusted stylist who I know will give me what I want lol!

I’ve been really into lighter hued blues oranges lately so when I started planning this dress I immediately knew I wanted to wear it with some bold colored footwear- these boots from @silentd_shoes totally fit the bill (boot mention isn’t an ad, just giving a shout out to a fun brand I like!) This dress isn’t actually spooky but I feel like the embroidery and the orange boots make it feel halloween-y…or at least thats what I am telling myself cause I don’t have a costume! Have fun tonight, all! p.s. I don’t hate my hair like this (yay!) but I am getting it cut again tomorrow to give it more of a definite shape. Don’t worry, Im going to a trusted stylist who I know will give me what I want lol!
Despite being pretty meh about this pattern (McCalls 7974), I am beyond happy with how this dress turned out. I didn’t size down (because the armholes always tend to be way too tight when I do that) but I took out some length and some width in the bodice, which raised the waistline of the skirt and kept the back bodice from scooping down too low. The fit now is mostly okay, but its still looser in the bust area than I would like (I added back ties to cinch it in more), and although the neckline lays down fine, any movement at all allows glimpses of my bra underneath, which isn’t that big of a deal in the long run, but still, not ideal- if you’re busty, I feel like this bodice will work a lot better on you! This periwinkle cotton doodle print from @wearethefabricstore is the real winner, though. It’s floaty, it’s funky and the random embroidered words and images make me think of little stick n poke tattoos- so cute! Of course I ran out of fabric and had to amend the sleeve length from long to short, but honestly it worked out so much better- I would have felt out of sorts in long sleeves and a bodice that felt floppy- like all the wrong things were covered up.
