I bought the yarn for this sweater on New Year’s Eve. I’m going through an amicable but incredibly sad separation right now so splurging on new yarn in service to self care seemed like a kind way to ring in the new year. Little did I know that I would power through this sweater in the coming days as wildfires raged through my city and my anxiety shot through the roof. Knitting is like breath; your needle reaches through a blank space to find the loop of yarn, inhale. Once the yarn is looped around it, the needle reverses backwards to pull the yarn through- exhale. One stitch completed. Again: Needle into the abyss, needle back out. Over and over again. Dozens of times. Hundreds of times. Thousands of times, until you have a moderately regulated nervous system and a finished sweater vest in your lap. I am powerless over the universe, powerless to tragedy, to grief, to loss. The only thing I have power over is me. I’m grateful that I am safe, and I am grateful for these hands. Happy knitting.#sewing Sweater: library card sweater Jeans: Persephone pants Top: vintage big 4 Shoes and belt: memade
Library Card Sweater (yarn is from @thelittleknittery ) #proteapants by @paradisepatterns and memade belt. I have more/better words of birthday wisdom to impart but im gonna blog about it on my substack. Have you been reading? It’s lit lol. Oh yeah, and remember, you never have to qualify a sincere compliment. Someone can just look good, or be fun or inspire you- you don’t have to add “for their age”. That shit, though well intentioned, is a backwards compliment ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I used to think jumpsuits didn’t look good on me. I used to lots of things didn’t look good on me. it took me not only learning to sew my own clothes but learning to fit them to my body for me to realize that there is no such thing as *anything* not looking good on me- if it fits me how I want it to, if I made it with love and good intentions to protect and adorn this imperfect but beautiful machine that’s kept me going for 44 years, then of course it’s gonna look good on me. It looks good on me because I feel good in it! And also because it’s made to fit my petite frame and it cinches in at the waist just how I like it and it’s in a color that makes me feel like sunshine. If the marker of looking good is just *feeling* good about how you look, it doesn’t matter what clothes you wear at all. So you might as well make them fun! Happy sewing ❤️ #blancaflightsuit by @closetcorepatterns and simplicity R10013 coat
Do not remember the name of this vintage sweater pattern but the pants are the persephones by Ana Allen Clothing, boots are RTW and the velvet ribbon is piping leftover from an upholstery project 😬 #sewing #imakemyownclothes
From waaaaay back in the beginning of my sewing days! The insides look crazy compared to my makes now, but holy hell the dress fits like a dream. Speaking of holy hell- this is the only thing in my entire wardrobe I’ve ever seen with moth holes in, and I would love to mend but i want it to be invisible. I do love visible intentional mending I just wouldn’t love it on this dress, as I think it would detract from its sweet simplicity. But I got no more of this fabric! I might try and selvage some small pieces from the seam allowances inside and see if I can manage to make them less noticeable…
Some folks feel a little self conscious about calling themselves artists, especially in our commodity-obsessed society. Are we writers if we haven’t sold books? Are we potters if we don’t have recognizable brands? Are we artists if we don’t want to sell the things we create? Thankfully as I get older, I learn to give myself permission to define my own principles. I’m an artist because I love beauty, and I make sure my environment reflects that. It’s on my walls, in my friends homes, on my body. Today the art I’m bringing into the world is hundreds upon hundreds of knitted stitches in the color of *golden afternoon sunlight* and a pair of gorgeously fitted (and surprisingly comfortable!) jeans that celebrate my butt in a way that RTW brands could only dream of. What a gift this is- we must not take it for granted. Happy sewing ❤️ #birkinflares by @patternworkshop sweater unpromoted; designer on the 💩 list
Tough times on the macro and micro levels call for inspired outfit pairings. Unlike some folks suffering through internal emotional chaos, I don’t find solace in repudiating mascara and wearing pajamas to the grocery store, but rather in steeping myself in whatever beauty I have at my fingertips. It feels like cosplay armoring myself in my autumnal palette and carefully considered textiles when my interior world feels so frozen and untethered, but it must be working because parading around as an aesthete is the closest to my beloved self that I can get, and feeling connection to anything true right now seems a step in the right direction. I was as surprised as anyone when I realized that ice blue and olive green of the same hue intensity would be such a match made in heaven. Doesn’t seem right on paper, but that’s one of my favorite things about artful dressing- you can’t discover the magic without seeing it in real life. Decked out in muted earth tones, I’m working hard to avoid self pity, to express gratitude at every opportunity, and to read inspirational shit (Pema Chodron FTW). Grief is just love with nowhere to go, so we take it one day at a time, we feel our feelings without shame, and we learn how to let it embolden us rather than shrivel us ❤️ Nerisa Quilted Coat Pattern by @byhandlondon in quilted fabric from @corefabrics Vintage Nina Ricci for Vogue Paris Original 2352 in green linen RTW boots

Humla romper by @paradisepatterns in a gorgeous flowy silk I bought at one of @wzrdreams favorite nyc fabric stores. I love this thing, I’ve been thinking that if the caftan is the auntie, the humla is the young niece that loves to come to her auntie’s house and try on her jewelry and borrow her clothes and look through her photo albums and and play her records and listen to her stories, just gearing herself up for her own auntiehood one day 🥹also, if you like the song floating beneath my voiceover please go check out @bandwaveband ‘s brand new album on Spotify, obsessed is not the right word for my relationship to this music- it’s been giving me major ethereal sweet breezy summer vibes for weeks❤️❤️❤️
Just sewed up the chanterelle pants by @sewliberated in a corduroy-adjacent cotton fabric that I love. These pants are a nice addition to my wardrobe: comfy elastic waist, roomy in the hips and thigh, slight balloon shape to the legs accentuated by a tapered ankle. Had to add a side zip because my waist to hip measurement is 🍑 but that’s normal for me with pull-up pants like this. The crotch is strangely high on these- I would lower maybe an inch next time (instructions suggest you trim crotch seam down for comfort so I feel like they already know it’s a bit too high- trimming it was helpful but I can still feel it between my legs which isn’t ideal). Love the deep pockets and general roomy fit. Would love to make again in a lighter weight wool! 💙❤️🤍
#claradress by @silversagapatterns in Japanese cotton lawn from @lafinchfabrics_new hacked with mods I discovered from other IG makers: ⭐️1.5-ish inches off front and back necklines ⭐️Shirring added to waist in between and below and the two elastic casings ⭐️shortened sleeves with added allowance for elastic casing ⭐️lengthened dress by several inches Even with the mods this was a super simple dress to make, easy to fit since the shirring and elastic makes it very forgiving, super simple silhouette but looks and feels very elegant and perfect for hot summer days in a super breezy fabric like this one!

I have always loved nail art but I’m cheap and have unique tastes in nail designs that I didn’t see reflected in the work of my local salons. I love self care and I love a diy challenge so I started practicing nail art on myself and over the past couple years it’s become one of my favorite ways to decompress and show myself love through self care. Still learning and getting better at using my left hand to do intricate designs. I’m a big fan of @essie polishes ( I’m just not a gel girlie) and these are my natural nails which are healthy and strong at this length ❤️#nails #nailart
