In honor of the new suicide squad being released I’m giving a lil backstory to the character Diablo. The character I built was based on a an amalgamation of people that I knew growing up in LA. Specifically my older brother. Now I normally don’t bring my family into social media but this is a small exception. The first image is the very first time I ever saw myself in full makeup. It was SURREAL. I looked at myself & thought,”this could have been my life and now I’m playing a version of it in a f**king superhero movie!” I thought about how my life could have turned out so much differently had I not been able to observe & learn from my older brothers. I owe both of them a massive debt. They taught me what family was, what honor & respect was. Sometimes by their mistakes. But they always had my back and believed in me. The second pic is my bro that he sent me from prison. He did his thing, life in there is violent & he got as much as he gave. Regardless, he is an amazing human being whose circumstance got the best of him but in the end, he is a survivor. I respect & love that man. I always said, the ability to thrive/survive in that environment are the same set of qualities that determine success on the outside. Much like Diablo he searches for redemption & like that character… I believe he deserves it. The full story goes DEEP. Trust me on that one. I returned to the beach villa this weekend, inland was searing with heat. If I wanted to fry like a proletariat I’d eat southern food. In the time of Covid, naturally everyone here has been inoculated. Unfortunately not against bad taste as I watched Bernard traipse into the party wearing Tory Burch flats. Delia brought that wicked Pomeranian again who enthusiastically shat on a 200 year old Persian the literal Instant it walked through the door. She tossed the leash to Carlucci, moving off in feigned desperation for a gimlet finished with a spritz of dramboui & pretended not notice the unfortunate deposit. Near the grotto we installed yurts whose quaint design & material felt comfortably ethnic, it’s where revelers would later dutifully snack on psycodelics & lie. A raucous party was now percolating. Enough skin, plastic surgery & obnoxious laughter to know Hollywood was not far. Famous people abound, many from that new action movie, the plot eludes me but I assume it’s world ending, I would argue the studio could have saved money & simply looked outside. At some point I found myself in the garden. I intended to brood here for some time. Melancholy jealously gripped me yet again, it could be that the MDMA gifted to me by Francois was of poor quality but I think rather the fact that no Cyrus had chosen to attend my soirée, (I had invited both) was the true reason. I suppose it’s time to return to the party, entertainment was on the way. Fire breathers & 3 alligators of questionable provenance would soon arrive as twilight quickly approaches, someone could maim themselves doing such things & I’d hate to miss that.
Tonight an episode of @magnumpicbs is directed by a very grateful guy from LA. He watched the show as a child & never thought he’d get to play such an iconic character, let alone produce & direct. Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen, the cast & crew work their asses off to make these shows. I got to direct one of my oldest friends in the biz @domenicklombardozzi , didn’t sleep for about a month, swam with a pod of dolphins under the ocean & got Covid all in one episode! Enjoy. 😆🤙🏽🏝🏎🌈🦠
